Role-playing games (RPGs) have been a mainstay in gaming for many years now, encompassing titles that were developed decades ago as well as newer ones that are constantly expanding the genre. With these games typically offering extensive content and numerous hours of gameplay, a key aspect of RPGs is character classes. Players are given the option to choose from various playstyles to navigate the game, which can significantly impact the overall gaming experience. The choice of class must be made thoughtfully as it can have substantial consequences in the game’s progression, depending on the title chosen.
In the rich tapestry of Role-Playing Games (RPGs), numerous titles offer character classes as a key gameplay element. Some boast a multitude of primary classes, while others emphasize an array of subclasses and deeper class customization. Yet others present a diverse spectrum of playable classes, enhancing the replay value significantly. Many games are renowned for their extensive assortment and versatility of classes.
9. World Of Warcraft
Various Classes With Several Specializations
In simpler terms, World of Warcraft is a massive and well-known video game, even for those not into gaming. As a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG), the class system plays a significant role in its gameplay, offering 13 distinct character classes to choose from. These choices can slightly vary depending on the game expansion.
In World of Warcraft (WoW), the fundamental classes branch off into distinct specializations tailored for each class. For instance, Death Knights have a Frost spec, Shamans possess Restoration, and Warriors/Paladins specialize in Protection. Even though they share similar names, these specializations are predominantly unique to their respective classes. Generally, most classes have at least three specializations, but exceptions like the Demon Hunter and Druid break this rule, contributing to the diversity among the base classes. Unlike some other MMOs, WoW introduces new classes infrequently.
8. Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous
Many Different Types Of Classes
Kingmaker” was the forerunner to “Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous“. While both games offered a variety of character classes to pick from, “Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous” boasts an expanded selection with a total of 26 classes.
Yet, it extends further than just the fundamental categories, as these are merely the starting points. The game Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous boasts prestige classes, totaling 13 in number, offering a rich and diverse gaming experience for those seeking to explore numerous playstyles.
7. EverQuest 2
More Classes Than The First Game
To enhance the gaming experience by building upon the initial version, expanding the available character classes is a worthy goal. This strategy is employed by EverQuest 2, as they expanded the class options from 16 in the original game to 26 in the sequel.
In some games, you’ll find typical MMO character roles like dealing damage (as an Assassin or Inquisitor), taking damage (Guardian), or healing others. On top of these, there are also professions focused on creating items, such as a Tailor, Alchemist, and Carpenter. These two categories are referred to as Adventurers for combat roles, and Crafters for those who specialize in making things.
6. Final Fantasy 5
A Huge Number Of Jobs
Hey there, fellow gaming enthusiast! I can’t help but reminisce about my favorite video game franchise – Final Fantasy. This series has an incredible knack for creating diverse roles, and they don’t call them classes like in most games; instead, they go by the name of jobs. And let me tell you, Final Fantasy 5 really outdid itself with a whopping 26 unique jobs!
In the game, you’ll encounter familiar roles like Black Mage and Dragoon, reminiscent of Final Fantasy. However, less common jobs also make an appearance, such as Mime. Additionally, certain jobs unique to the platform where Final Fantasy 5 is played, like Necromancer and Cannoneer, can be found as well.
5. Final Fantasy 14
Ever-Increasing Jobs
In the course of its existence, the MMO game “Final Fantasy 14” has continually introduced new roles to its roster. Initially, it had only a few character classes (often referred to as jobs within the series), but this variety has since grown to include a total of 21 jobs.
Each job in the game corresponds to distinct roles taken on by players. For instance, some characters like the Dark Knight act as tanks, while others such as Astrologian specialize in healing. Characters like Viper are damage dealers. Interestingly, damage dealers can be melee, ranged, or magical. Adding the Disciples of the Land and Hand jobs, along with the Blue Mage job (which is limited), brings the total number to a comprehensive 33 jobs. This count continues to expand with each game expansion, ensuring diversity and versatility in gameplay.
4. Final Fantasy Tactics
The Most Jobs In Any Final Fantasy Game
It’s clear from its repeated appearances on this list that I, as a fan, have always been amazed by the sheer variety of jobs featured in the Final Fantasy series. Among these games, Final Fantasy Tactics stands out for me personally, as it boasts the most diverse job selection within the entire Final Fantasy universe.
The roles span across 33 different types, including Time Mage, Soldier, Geomancer, and Dark Knight. Some positions are common, while others are specialized. You can access the specialized positions once you’ve met the necessary requirements.
3. Grim Dawn
A Focus On Multiclassing
In many role-playing games (RPGs), characters can pick a main class, and as they advance, they often have the option to specialize further using subclasses. Some advanced RPGs also permit characters to combine traits from multiple classes, a process known as multiclassing.
In Grim Dawn, there is an emphasis on the ability to multiclass, with just 10 initial classes (or Masteries), but this expands to a total of 45 when combining different masteries. Having Dual Classes gives players a vast range of options that goes beyond the standard single classes found in most other games.
2. MapleStory
Various Classes Under Five Class Banners
In contrast to the West, MapleStory enjoys immense popularity, particularly in Asian regions. As a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG), it boasts a wide array of character classes that fall under various class categories.
In simpler terms, heroes can be categorized into broader groups like Warriors, Bowmen, Pirates, and so forth. For instance, Bowmaster is a type of Bowman, and Corsair is a kind of Pirate. Some classes also have sub-categories, such as Explorer, Cygnus Knight, or Flora, which fall under their respective main branches. All in all, there are around 50 unique character classes to choose from, offering plenty of variety for players.
1. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
A Massive Number Of Classes
The “Fire Emblem” series, which has been a mainstay for many years, boasts a diverse array of character classes across its games. Notably, “Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn” offers an impressive variety, boasting an abundance of these distinctive roles.
There are more than eighty distinct class options, each utilizing unique weaponry. Certain classes have the ability to advance into others, thereby increasing the total number of available classes to over eighty.
