According to the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, the upcoming Switch 2 console is capable of running three categories of games. You’ll find unique games developed exclusively for the Switch 2, such as The Duskbloods, along with some previously released Switch titles that can be purchased digitally or physically. Additionally, there are enhanced versions of these games specifically designed for the Switch 2. Instead of asking developers to produce separate editions for the console, like having both a PS4 and PS5 version of Hogwarts Legacy, Nintendo has chosen to upgrade original Switch games by adding exclusive features in-house.
In their presentation, they demonstrated that several games such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokemon Legends Z-A, and Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 would all benefit from the upgrades offered by the Switch 2. As more improved games are coming soon, the question arises: which Nintendo Switch games could use these enhancements the most?
8. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Your Island Is Waiting
Prior to launching a fresh installment in the series, Nintendo might find success with an upgraded version of “Animal Crossing: New Horizons.” This game struck a chord when it was released in 2020, offering a welcome distraction during the pandemic-induced confinement. The game remained popular for a year or more, but its popularity dwindled due to insufficient updates. A revival could be sparked on Switch 2 if they improve the island-visiting functionality with friends and introduce new villagers, along with other enticing features. This would undoubtedly be an effortless triumph for Nintendo in terms of enhancing their Switch 2 lineup.
7. Cadence Of Hyrule: Crypt Of The NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda
Remembering This Bizarre Indie Crossover

The game titled “Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda” functioned flawlessly upon its release on the Nintendo Switch in 2019. It ran smoothly and boasted impressive visuals whether played in docked or handheld mode, but the enhanced audio capabilities of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 could make it an even more enjoyable experience as an updated port. The improved sound quality due to the 3D audio support on Switch 2 would be a significant upgrade, and additional content would be a welcome bonus. They might also link it to a mini-adventure within the Hyrule from “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” as an extra feature.
6. Okami
Get Ready For The Sequel

2024’s version of The Game Awards unveiled some major announcements, among them was a sequel to Okami, the game that first appeared on the PS2 in 2006. Since then, it has only had one follow-up, Okamiden, for the DS, and numerous console ports, with the Switch’s 2018 version being the last of these releases. However, it was also ported to Amazon Luna in 2022.
On PS5 and Xbox Series X, these games are playable but haven’t received console updates for enhancement. Nintendo could take the lead by offering an enhanced edition exclusively on the upcoming Switch 2, generating buzz for both the new version of the game and the sequel, which is likely to appear on the Switch 2 as well at some point in the future.
5. Pokemon Scarlet/Violet
Make It Look Less Rough

The initial presentation of Pokemon Legends: Z-A on the Nintendo Switch appeared somewhat rough around the edges, but the potential for improvement shown by the enhanced version on the Switch 2 suggests that it could significantly enhance the quality of games like Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. These games were launched in a less than polished state and have yet to improve since their release in 2022, with many aspects resembling an early access build rather than a full game launch. An enhanced version of the Nintendo Switch could provide fans with a smoother gaming experience during the summer months, serving as a stopgap until the anticipated fall release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which is typically when new Pokemon games are launched.
4. Resident Evil Village
Get Off The Cloud

It’s a secret that games like “Resident Evil Village,” as well as its predecessors such as “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard” and the remakes of “Resident Evil 2” and “Resident Evil 3,” are available on Nintendo Switch. However, here’s the catch: these games are Cloud-based versions, meaning they require a stable internet connection to stream. If your internet isn’t up to par, playing these games on Switch might not offer the best experience.
Nintendo could improve this situation by encouraging developers to fully port Cloud-based games like the “Resident Evil” series natively onto future versions of the Switch. This would make things easier for players, particularly those with less reliable internet connections.
3. Ring Fit Adventure
Work Off Those Calories

During The Pandemic, Ring Fit Adventure emerged as another popular game due to people’s difficulty in accessing gyms while maintaining their fitness routines. It’s astonishing that Nintendo, despite having ample time since its release in 2019, barely provided updates and have yet to announce a sequel. However, there’s hope for the future, as they could potentially introduce this game on the Switch 2 when it becomes available.
Perhaps the revised Joy-Cons will offer enhanced responsiveness, and it might be worthwhile for Nintendo to include additional levels in the process. They could even let players explore Nintendo-inspired realms spanning from Mario levels to those found in The Legend of Zelda series.
2. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
It’s Time For One More Wave

Fans were disheartened when they learned that Masahiro Sakurai’s next game wouldn’t be another installment of Super Smash Bros., but instead Kirby Air Riders was announced. However, there’s a silver lining as Sakurai might have negotiated with Nintendo to work on his own project, provided he develops one more batch of characters for a potential Switch 2 version of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Given that “Ultimate” is in the title, it’s challenging to envision something better. A new wave of characters and a long-desired story mode could generate immense excitement for the port, similar to what was seen since Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Wii.
1. Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Needs More Work Than X

The “Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition” is the newest installment in the series, even though it’s essentially a revamped version of the game initially released for Wii U. Although it came out later compared to “Xenoblade Chronicles 2,” which debuted alongside the Switch in 2017, the Definitive Edition boasts improved visuals and performance over its predecessor. Instead of completely remaking the game from scratch like the Definitive Edition, a straight port with upgrades made possible by the enhanced capabilities of the Nintendo Switch could be more cost-effective. Players might also welcome an updated version of “Xenoblade Chronicles 3” along with a fresh title during the lifespan of the potential Switch 2.
