Streaming sensation Asmongold has now signed up with Kick, making him the most recent notable streamer to broaden his reach on this emerging platform. However, the method he chose to join took many by surprise. Launched towards the end of 2022, Kick is garnering attention due to its more flexible content policies and substantially larger payouts for content creators compared to Twitch, which is owned by Amazon.

One significant factor contributing to Kick’s rapid expansion is its strategic move of recruiting prominent figures from Twitch and YouTube. Notably, it has invested heavily to achieve this goal. In June 2023, Kick inked deals with two of Twitch’s top content creators: xQc, who reportedly agreed to a $100 million contract, and Amouranth, details about whose agreement remain confidential. Additionally, in the same year, Kick signed Nickmercs under a $10 million non-exclusive deal, enabling him to stream on Kick while retaining his existing audience elsewhere.

On June 1st, Kick made an unexpected move by welcoming Asmongold into their family, as announced in a post saying “Welcome to the Kick family @Asmongold.” This surprising announcement was followed by Asmongold’s revelation that he would start multistreaming the very next day, meaning he would broadcast his content on both Twitch and Kick at the same time. The interesting aspect of this partnership is that it didn’t involve any significant financial agreement. Bijan Tehrani, one of the co-founders of Kick, clarified that Asmongold joined through their standard Partner Program, with no exclusive contract or large payment. Tehrani criticized Twitch’s longstanding practice of confining creators within a closed ecosystem and highlighted Asmongold, a top Twitch streamer, choosing to multistream as a significant change in the landscape.

Asmongold Explains Why He Joined Kick

Later on, Asmongold clarified his choice to collaborate with Kick’s partner program by stating that he thinks multi-streaming represents the future of content production. He emphasized that this collaboration won’t affect his Twitch viewers in any way – they can still access his content as usual. This decision merely expands the options for fans to watch him, with Kick being an additional platform. When questioned about why he opted for Kick instead of YouTube, Asmongold highlighted YouTube’s stringent DMCA policies, which make the platform challenging for his specific streaming activities.

When queried if he got a substantial payment for joining Kick, he replied in the negative, stressing that his choice was driven by preserving creative autonomy rather than entering into exclusive contracts. Notably, Asmongold had suggested this strategy during a live broadcast as early as 2023, mentioning that he wasn’t prepared to be tied exclusively to any platform.
