Total War: Medieval 3 Announced, New Total War Game Engine, Star Wars or Warhammer 40.000 Next?

Total War: Medieval 3 Announced and Everything We Saw At The Total War Showcase

The Creative Assembly recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a showcase full of exciting announcements for the Total War franchise. Highlights included the reveal of Total War: Medieval 3, details about the new Total War Engine, a new DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3, and a first look at an unannounced Total War game! These announcements are fantastic news for both fans of historical and fantasy Total War titles.

Total War: Medieval 3 Announced and Details

The biggest announcement from the showcase was Total War Medieval 3. Development is in the very early stages – the team is still planning and preparing before actual development begins. This means the game likely won’t be released next year, but we might see it sometime in 2027. Creative Assembly describes it as a fresh start for historical Total War games and aims to create the ultimate medieval strategy experience. They announced it now to keep the community updated on their progress. It seems like historical Total War is making a comeback, and hopefully, that expectation will become a reality.

New Total War Game Engine

Creative Assembly has revealed they’re working on a new game engine called Warcore, and early previews suggest it’s quite far along in development. While described as both a significant upgrade and a completely new engine, it’s still unclear whether Warcore is built from the ground up or a major overhaul of their existing Warscape engine from 2009.

The team discussed a major overhaul of the game’s core technology to support new features, including a realistic physics system called Havoc. This will lead to more dynamic and destructible environments, as well as smarter AI for both battles and the campaign. They also talked about significantly improving the game’s graphics with better rendering and lighting to create a more immersive experience. Beyond visuals, the team highlighted advancements in animation, moving to a new system that allows for a wider range of movements and more complex vehicle behavior – potentially hinting at future games.

We saw a couple of screenshots displayed, and if they represent the new engine, they appear quite promising.

There’s a New Total War: Warhammer 3 “Lords of the End Times” DLC

Total War: Warhammer 3, a top-rated strategy game, is receiving a new expansion called “Lords of the End Times.” This expansion lets players experience the dramatic conclusion of the Warhammer Fantasy Battles storyline. It introduces four new playable Legendary Lords to the Immortal Empires campaign, including the popular necromancer Nagash and his powerful Mortarchs. While this expansion focuses on the end of the Warhammer fantasy world, the developers, Creative Assembly, have confirmed that they will continue to support and update the game with future content.

Total War: Star Wars or Total War: Warhammer 40,000 To Be Announced?

So, I was watching the stream when they dropped a hint that Creative Assembly is working on more than just Medieval 3! They said they’ll announce a new game at The Game Awards on December 11th, and the chat went wild trying to guess what it is. Honestly, it seems like everyone’s betting on either a new Total War: Warhammer 40,000 or a Total War: Star Wars game. I’m personally hyped for either one – I’m a huge fan of both those universes, and either game would be amazing!
