As a long-time fan of Tower of God, I must say that this latest episode has certainly piqued my interest! The introduction of new characters, such as Urek Mazino, adds a layer of intrigue to the storyline and keeps us on our toes. It’s clear that the creators are not shy about killing off characters, which only heightens the suspense.

In the sixth installment of Tower of God season 2, we were introduced to several fresh characters, shedding light on the events that molded Twenty-Fifth-Bam, or Jue Viole Grace, into a FUG Slayer Candidate. Characters like Hwaryun and another FUG member dropped by to check on his newly formed team with Ja Wangnan, but their amiable demeanor concealed a grim reality. It wasn’t long before Wangnan discovered the true nature of Viole’s connection to FUG and understood why their meeting could have easily turned into a deadly confrontation for everyone present.

The team also embarked on their next test, which quickly became dicey when half of the team ran into an incredibly dangerous individual who is responsible for the deaths of many Rankers: a man named Urek Mazino.

Viole Meets Up With Two FUG Members

An Awkward Conversation and Confirmation That Viole Is Bam

Tower of God Season 2 Episode 6: How Bam Got Involved With FUG

The story resumes after episode 5, finding Yihwa probing Viole about clandestine meetings with other FUG members without informing the group. There’s more to her suspicion than meets the eye, and later in the episode, Ja Wangnan teases Yihwa for showing signs of distress when Viole met another woman in private. Despite the tension arising from Yihwa’s intrusion into a FUG meeting, Viole successfully defuses the situation by inviting Hwaryun and Ha Jinsung to their apartment, where they get to know Ja Wangnan and the team.

It’s only normal that people can’t unwind when they’re with individuals linked to a known terrorist group, but surprisingly, the FUG operatives offer snacks and come across as amicable. Eventually, Viole goes up to the roof to gaze at the sky as usual, Goseng carries sleepy Miseng off to bed, and the gathering disperses, leaving Wangnan with Hwaryun. Later on, Ha Jinsung ascends to the rooftop alongside Viole, and he casually reveals a vital detail we’ve been trying to decipher – Jue Viole Grace is actually Bam.

FUG’s Intentions For Viole Are Revealed

Bam’s Friends Are Being Held Hostage

After the group disperses, Hwaryun shares with Ja Wangnan that Ha Jinsung appears amiable, yet they’re all fortunate just to be alive as everyone in FUG harbors dissatisfaction towards Viole’s team due to their discontent with the rest of the organization. She elaborates that within FUG, Viole is seen as a divine figure because he has the potential to achieve the group’s main goal and “fulfill people’s aspirations”. This refers to Viole’s unique ability to kill King Jahad. The king entered into an agreement with the Tower Administrators, making him invulnerable to attacks by any Tower resident.

As someone who has spent a significant portion of my life navigating the complexities of power and loyalty, I find myself deeply moved by the character development of Viole (Jahad) in Tower of God. The narrative cleverly portrays his unwavering determination to climb the Tower not as a personal goal or ambition, but as a selfless act driven by his desire to protect those he cares for. This resonates with me, as I too have faced situations where my actions were motivated by the well-being of others rather than my own desires.

The Next Test Begins and Mysterious New Characters Appear

The Team Prepares to Catch a Rare Treasure

Tower of God Season 2 Episode 6: How Bam Got Involved With FUG

Following their meeting with Viole’s associates at FUG, Ja Wangnan and his companions undertake a fresh challenge involving a massive creature known as Shinheuh, or “Divine Sea Fish”, specifically a Zygaena – an animal resembling a whale that is said to house an exceptionally uncommon bloom. To clear the test, they need to penetrate the Zygaena’s body, locate the flower, and then leave within a specified timeframe. The Zygaena possesses two respiratory organs – one on its back and another on its belly. Every 30 minutes, the creature flips over, requiring the team to be adept at entering, collecting the flower, and scheduling an accurate exit. They decide to split into two groups. Ja Wangnan enters through the blowhole accompanied by Arkraptor, Miseng, and Goseng.

Immediately upon entering, the Zygaena flips upside down. Inside this creature, they quickly come across a flower that blossoms on the back of a young Zygaena, resembling a nimble piglet. They pursue it further into the creature’s interior, but eventually, it disappears into a narrow passageway, and only Miseng is able to follow it alone. Meanwhile, Kang Horyang, Prince, Viole, and Yihwa enter through an opening on the Zygaena’s abdomen, finding themselves in a vast chamber where they are assaulted by massive lizard-like beasts.

Introducing Urek Mazino

A Killer of Rankers

Tower of God Season 2 Episode 6: How Bam Got Involved With FUG

Horyang and Prince confront the creature, but then more of them appear, descending like rain with bolts of lightning. Once the dust has cleared, Horyang and Prince discover themselves surrounded by hostile figures, led by a man named Urek Mazino. Mazino does not bother to introduce himself, but he warns them that revealing his presence would cause a stir in the Tower, and he had mistakenly identified Horyang and Prince as Regulars instead of Rankers. According to Mazino, a group of Rankers were sent by the Administrator, who had likely set up a trap disguised as a test for the Regulars. He offers them a chance to forget everything they saw in exchange for abandoning this test, but when Bam hears their intention to withdraw, he refuses and decides to fight instead.

He tells the others to run while he takes on Urek Mazino, whose face is finally revealed after an uncomfortable amount of time spent obscured, which put a damper on the impact of the reveal and made it feel like his mysterious aura was very forced. The episode’s first half was a wrap-up of the previous episode’s situation, while the second half was priming the next episode which is teasing a battle between this so-called killer of Rankers and Viole. The brief appearance of a shrouded character named Karaka earlier in the episode was also another element that will become more important as the series progresses. It was interesting to see why Bam got involved with FUG, and the upcoming fight will have to be very well executed for it to feel like the set up was paid off.
