Heads up, fellow gamers! If you’ve just finished watching the latest episode of Tower of God (Season 2, Episode 7), titled “Mazino Magic,” streamed on Crunchyroll, I must warn you: major spoilers lie ahead in this conversation! Proceed with caution if you don’t want those plot twists and character revelations ruined for you. Happy gaming and may the best of us reach the top of the Tower!

In the seventh installment of Tower of God, we witnessed a short confrontation between characters Jue Viole Grace and Urek Mazino, who is known as the Ranker-killer. This clash resulted in significant injuries to not only Viole but also the Yeon family. Although it was hinted at strongly in the final moments of the previous episode, the fight between Viole and Mazino fell short of expectations for numerous reasons.

Through sheer fortune, the team passes the Zygaena test. In this process, Ja Wangnan uncovers vital details about an upcoming grand tournament or challenge, slated to occur at The Workshop – a section of the Tower where all artifacts are crafted and is accessible on the 30th floor.

Jue Viole Grace vs Urek Mazino

A Powerful Enemy Gives The Group Some Grace

1. Urek Mazino softens his aggressive stance when he discovers that the individuals he’s confronting aren’t high-ranked combatants, but ordinary trainees undergoing a test. It’s revealed that the scarcity of the Zygaena flower, emblematic of the Yeon family, is artificially maintained by the family through the elimination of young Zygaena insects. These creatures are inadvertently killed during flower harvesting because it’s their only food source. Urek aims to capture a baby Zygaena and nurture it so that its population can grow, thereby reducing the flower’s rarity. The struggle between Urek and Viole commences when the Zygaena flips over. If Urek can seize Viole before he can snatch the Zygaena flower hovering above them, then he will eliminate him. Viole sends Kang Horyang and the Prince away, but they have no intention of allowing Viole to fight solo. The Prince shares Viole’s location with the rest of his team. Similar to Rachel, Mazino aspires to depart from the Tower and witness the supposed boundless sky that he believes lies beyond it.

“Why does being king of the Tower appeal to you so much? To me, it doesn’t matter who takes the throne. I prefer to step outside the Tower instead. Beyond the Tower lies an endless expanse of sky, filled with stars that brighten the night. It’s a place of boundless freedom, far more captivating than any title or position. Isn’t there something more appealing about such a place?”

In the midst of being surrounded by numerous assailants, Urek moves swiftly towards Viole who is yet to regain his footing due to the Zygaena’s shifting position. Urek then engages Viole in combat, causing Miseng, who was pursuing the baby Zygaena, to find herself in the crossfire. Just as Mazino’s attack was about to hit Miseng, Viole stepped in to protect her, receiving a severe wound on his back instead. As Mazino noticed the baby Zygaena, his focus shifted away from Viole and he offered them the flower hidden within the adult Zygaena. Leaving behind a group of Rankers led by the test director, Mazino swiftly defeated them before pinning the test director to the ground. Revealing knowledge about the Yeon family’s plot to manipulate the rarity of the Zygaena, he then threatened the test director. Returning to his hideout, Mazino handed over the baby Zygaena to his assistant Yuje, instructing her to inform Jahad (presumably Yuri) about obtaining it and keep an eye on Viole.

The Aftermath of the Test

Tower of God Season 2 Episode 7: The Disgrace of the Yeon Family

Following the test, Viole spends two days confined to bed, whereas Yihwa remains in her room due to the severe blow to her family’s standing as a result of the disclosure about the rarity of the Zygaena’s flower. Ja Wangnan links up with Ha Jinsung on the rooftop, where he is sternly warned that his group and their actions are endangering Viole, and they should distance themselves from him. The bond between Ha Jinsung and Viole is intricate; while many connected to FUG exploit Viole for their own purposes without considering his wishes, Ha Jinsung appears to genuinely have concern for Viole.

1. The pureness and honesty that led Bam to forge numerous friendships and gain acceptance within the initial group. After a shopping trip with Arkraptor, Kang Horyang, and Prince, Ja Wangnan attempts to suggest leaving Viole, but none of them are open to the idea. Meanwhile, Yihwa is disheartened by the revelation about her family, only for Hwaryun to approach her, revealing that the Yeon family continues to offer bounties for Zygaena babies. She inquires if Yihwa’s determination to ascend the Tower has been affected by witnessing her family’s shame. Through her goading, Hwaryun manages to inspire Yihwa to chart her own course forward. Determined to make amends for her family’s actions and demonstrate her resolve, she decides to start her journey up the Tower, and as a show of commitment, she takes over cooking duties, which unexpectedly causes Miseng to cry.

Ja Wangnan and the Others Resolve to Continue Climbing With Viole

“FUG Didn’t Like That”

Tower of God Season 2 Episode 7: The Disgrace of the Yeon Family

Ha Jinsung has grown attached to Viole, which makes him hesitant about indiscriminately killing Ja Wangnan and his crew. However, other members of FUG are less compassionate. At night, Jinsung is approached by a shrouded figure known as Karaka, a Slayer for FUG who appears to have a friendly rapport with Jinsung. Karaka, along with other FUG members, believe that Viole would thrive more if he ascended the Tower alongside competent allies chosen by the organization. Karaka also suspects that Jinsung’s feelings might be clouding his judgment regarding this matter. Following their conversation, Karaka vanishes back into the shadows, instructing someone called Poken to locate reliable Regulars to monitor Viole and eliminate any of his teammates if they engage in suspicious activities.

Just before parting ways, Ja Wangnan inquires from Hwaryun about how to encounter Viole’s companions. She mentions a place called the Workshop, located on the 30th floor of the Tower, where all the items within the Tower are made. In two years, an event known as the Workshop battle will occur, and if they manage to get there, they might find Viole’s friends. Unfortunately, episode 7 of Tower of God season 2 fell short in terms of the fight between Viole and Urek, who is said to be one of the strongest in the Tower. The battle should have been more impactful and served as an opportunity to improve the season with impressive animation quality, but that didn’t happen. The evolving connection between Viole’s current companions and those from his past (as Bam) is intriguing, and it’s developing in an interesting manner. However, the show could benefit from exceptional displays of sakuga during its crucial scenes.
