As a seasoned gamer and avid reader of Tower of God, I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing both the anime adaptation and the original manga, and let me tell you, they are worlds apart! The manga offers a richer, more comprehensive storyline that dives deep into the lore of the Tower, characters’ backstories, and intricate plot details that the anime fails to capture.

Tower of God is an enthralling Korean comic series penned by SIU, which follows the thrilling odyssey of a boy named Bam, who sets out on a risky trek to scale the mysterious Tower in pursuit of his comrade Rachel. Along this arduous climb, Bam encounters various trials, forms bonds, and uncovers the secrets hidden within the Tower.

After airing the initial season as an anime version and launching the second, this article aims to reveal hidden understandings from the first season that have been exclusive to the manga version of “Tower of God”. By spotlighting subtle patterns and advancements that remained consistent in the manhwa but were absent in the anime adaptation, we’ll share insights only accessible to readers of the series. In essence, here are some facts about Tower of God that only its dedicated readers know.

5 Yuri’s Introduction

Manhwa Chapter 01 – 06

In the manhwa and anime, it seems that the character Yuri’s initial encounter varies: in the anime, it appears as if Yuri doesn’t recognize Baam or his true nature.

In the comic (manhwa), Yuri is presented with greater clarity. She’s already aware of Baam as an irregular before they meet, which is why she talks about him and other irregulars even before their encounter in the Tower. This understanding explains her familiar demeanor towards him, both in the comic and the anime. Additionally, unlike the anime, Yuri provides a detailed explanation for why she felt compelled to assist Baam at that specific time.

4 Black March’s classification

In the series, Baam initially wields an item called the ‘Black March,’ presented by Yuri. In the animation, it seems like a sword, but it’s not explicitly clear if it’s truly a sword or something else with similar characteristics. This detail is essential because it highlights its unique features and battle capabilities. Interestingly, we later discover that it possesses a soul.

In the comic book (manhwa), the object is clearly described as a needle, rather than a sword, and it’s referred to as ‘The Greatest Needle.’ This needle is used for piercing and stabbing, unlike other weapons featured in the series of 13 months. Additionally, the manhwa explicitly mentions that Black March should be lit, which could explain why Baam didn’t use it to cut or slash in either the anime or the comic book.

3 The Lore of the Tower

Part I

In the anime version of the series, crucial details about the Tower, its background, and the people who inhabit it are rarely touched upon or mentioned. On the other hand, the comic book (manhwa) provides a thorough explanation and discussion of these aspects.

Topics such as the origins of the Tower, its first explorers, the significance of the ranks within the structure, the Zahard family, the Ten Major Families, and the assorted species and races inhabiting the tower are crucial in painting a more comprehensive picture of the storyline in the manhwa. Unfortunately, these aspects are not fully explored in the anime adaptation.

2 Baam’s Origins and Internal Monologues

Part I

In the animated version of the series, the main character Baam appears to be quickly introduced, whereas in the original comic (manhwa), Baam presents himself as “The Twenty-fifth Baam.” This detail isn’t present in the anime adaptation.

As a gamer, I can say that this intriguing manhwa does an excellent job of explaining my character, Baam’s, origins. Unlike ordinary humans, I was crafted by the mysterious mechanisms within the Tower itself. That’s why I spent my childhood outside of the Tower without any family other than Rachel discovering me. The manhwa goes deeper into my personality and essence by using my inner thoughts, something missing from the anime adaptation.

1 The Training Montage In Part I – The Aftermath of the Final Test

Manhwa Chapter 57- 74

In the manhwa but not in the anime, a pivotal sequence of intense training sessions takes place following Baam’s encounter with the floor administrator. Readers are given a rapid succession of events, including Ho’s funeral (exclusive to the manhwa), Rak’s instruction under Aleksai, Baam’s lessons with Endorsi, Ship Leeso, and Khun’s efforts to strengthen their bond. All of this leads up to a grand celebration.

Let’s zero in on Anak and Endorsi’s duel against the Bull in the anime, where they both engage in combat. In contrast, the manhwa depicts Anak battling the Bull alone, as it flees following its encounter with Endorsi. After completing the final test, each member of the group receives a ring from Yu Han Sung to mark their achievement, despite his doubt that Baam had perished. This is followed by a scene where Han Sung ponders about Baam’s location within the Tower, conversing with an unidentified individual.
