As a long-time fan of Tower of God, I’m thrilled to see the second season unfold and explore new storylines. Six years have passed since Rachel’s failed attempt on Bam’s life, and it’s fascinating to see how the characters have evolved. Ja Wangnan, a new main character, has taken it upon himself to help Rachel climb the tower, despite his contempt for her deceit.

As a dedicated fan of Tower of God who has followed the series since its inception, I cannot help but be excited for the release of the second season, titled “Return of the Prince,” now available on Crunchyroll. The anticipation builds within me as I recall the cliffhanger ending of the first season and the tantalizing promises of new adventures, deeper character development, and intriguing plot twists that await. The Tower of God has captivated my imagination with its unique world-building, compelling characters, and thrilling action sequences. I eagerly look forward to immersing myself once more in this fantastical universe and discovering the mysteries that lie within.

The new season of “Tower of God,” which began in July, is the second one and has been four years since the premiere of the first. Introducing a fresh set of characters and a storyline six years after the finale of season 1, it might be challenging to predict how this installment relates or connects back to the previous season’s events.

Based on the original manhwa by SIU, this is a preview of the ongoing second season of “Tower of God” anime:

Let’s Recontextualize

What Has Happened Thus Far?

In the initial installment of “Tower of God,” we were introduced to the show’s main character, Twenty-Fifth-Bam, along with several key elements that significantly contribute to the storyline. Among these are the tower itself, how most individuals gain access to it by being chosen by Headon, the oldest overseer of the tower, and King Jahad and his princesses. The term for those who gained entry through their own abilities is “Irregular,” whereas “Regulars” are those who climbed the tower after being selected. In the Japanese anime adaptation, the words used are “Senbetsu-sha” for “selected ones,” and “hi-Senbetsu-sha” for “unselected ones.” After spending an undetermined length of time by himself in the underground depths, Bam is discovered by a girl named Rachel. She becomes his entire universe, but when she decides to ascend the tower to witness the stars, she leaves Bam behind.

As someone who has delved deep into the captivating world of “Tower of God,” I can’t help but be in awe of Bam’s unyielding determination and the twists and turns his journey takes. At first, we see him following Rachel into the mysterious tower, but little do we know that it was actually Bam’s own desire to be with her that led them both to enter. It’s mind-blowing how things aren’t always as they seem in this intricately woven narrative.

Rachel’s Key Moment

A Heavy Betrayal Leading Into Season 2

Tower of God: What to Expect From Season 2 (According to the Manhwa)

I’ve always been fascinated by the complex relationship between Bam and Rachel. We saw them reunite after years apart during the trials in the lower levels of the Tower. But then, heartbreakingly, she betrayed him and even attempted to take his life. Miraculously, Bam made it through that harrowing experience. Later on, he encountered Hwaryun, another “Regular,” who took him under her wing and taught him how to ascend the Tower in search of answers as to what could have driven Rachel to such actions. In the second season, Bam now goes by the name Jue Viole Grace and has joined FUG, an anti-Jahad organization, as a Slayers candidate.

Six years after Rachel’s failed assassination attempt on Bam, the show introduces a new leading character, Ja Wangnan. Though Rachel faked paralysis, Khun Aguero felt obligated to complete what Bam started: aiding Rachel in ascending the tower. However, his disdain for her was evident in season 1’s finale when he expressed that he wished Bam had encountered him instead of Rachel.

The Room That Can’t Be Trusted

The Test of Viole’s Strength

Tower of God: What to Expect From Season 2 (According to the Manhwa)

Starting from the third episode of season 2, the Trustworthy Room Test is set to begin. This was hinted at in episode 2 when the Regulars were led to beautifully decorated rooms as preparation for the upcoming assessment. In this test, there’s a significant amount of deceit that unfolds. Despite believing his associates to be faithful, Prince ultimately experiences betrayal at the hands of Kim Lurker. She had already formed an alliance with multiple Regulars before they even reached the previous evaluation location. Moreover, during this test, all Rankers are pitted against Viole in competition. He holds his ground and leaves a lasting impression on one Ranker through a fierce confrontation.

Despite it being advantageous for them to collaborate, Ja Wangnan’s roommate Nia had switched sides and teamed up with Lurker, leaving Wangnan feeling betrayed. This betrayal culminated in Nia’s murder at the hands of Lurker while Wangnan and the others looked on in shock. Infuriated, Wangnan traveled to Viole’s location and struck a bargain, successfully completing the test. In the aftermath, Love received a 10-day suspension for conducting the test without approval from her supervisor, Gusgus, who was secretly an agent of FUG, and gleefully announced that “the Prince has passed”.

Aguero And Others To Receive Important Roles

Some of The Cast of the First Season Will Appear

Following the Trustworthy Room Test, we’ll reconnect with Khun Aguero, who has assembled a group and advanced up to level 25. His connection with Rachel has grown intricate over the past six years since Bam’s demise. Although it’s unsettling to observe her deception towards Aguero, which includes manipulating him, his ability to conceal his knowledge about her true condition is his most alarming characteristic. We discover that he’s been aware of the doctor’s report detailing Rachel’s stabbing by Hoh but has chosen not to suspect her, keeping this information hidden from Aguero.

After Bam’s supposed demise, Aguero instructed Shibisu and the other Regulars to move forward without him. Meanwhile, Aguero formed a new group and assumed responsibility for advancing with the person suspected of killing Bam. It is plausible that Rachel herself understands Aguero’s suspicions, adding another layer of complexity. In every team gathering, Aguero urges his members to be kind to Rachel but cautions them against forming strong bonds, as they may have to disregard her cries in the future.

In the Foundation Unity Government (FUG), there are individuals harboring animosity towards the Ten Great Families and Jahad. Some hold grudges out of hatred or envy, while others seek change. For these discontented individuals, a Slayer serves as their deity, granting them the power to realize their desires.

Season 2 In Two Parts?

Viole’s True Identity Is Confirmed

Tower of God: What to Expect From Season 2 (According to the Manhwa)

After the Trustworthy Room Test, Ja Wangnan will begin to view Viole in a more favorable light and perceive him as less of a danger. This shift occurs when Hwaryun and other agents from the FUG organization appear at the apartment that Viole has rented for himself and the Regulars. Although they put on a friendly façade around the group, Wangnan is later informed of Bam’s past by these individuals. He learns that Bam had become a Slayer for FUG under duress, with their threat to harm his friends being the motivation. Hwaryun, who had disguised herself as just another Regular during season 1, is revealed to be one of the Tower’s Guides. Additionally, it is uncovered that Yu Han Sung, the 2nd Floor Test Director, was responsible for compelling Bam to join FUG as an operative. This revelation leads Wangnan to develop sympathy towards Bam for the first time.

Ha Jinsung, who trains Viole, reveals to us that Jue Viole Grace is actually Bam. As an Irregular, Bam holds unique power unbound by the tower’s rules, making him FUG’s only hope to challenge Jahad and change the current order. With this immense responsibility pressed upon him, we follow Bam’s journey.

Tower of God is available on Crunchyroll, and new episodes air every Sunday.
