Towerborne, the action game from Stoic and Xbox Games Studios, will officially release on February 26, 2026. Currently available on PC and Xbox, it will also be coming to PlayStation 5. The launch will include a significant update, completely revamping the game experience.
Xbox has announced a significant change that some players might not like: the game is switching from a free-to-play model to a paid one. The standard version will cost $24.99, while a deluxe edition will be available for $29.99. On the plus side, this change means players will be able to purchase the game once and play it offline, unlike the previous always-online requirement.

Beyond the new way to purchase the game, there are several improvements to make playing more enjoyable. The story has been expanded with a compelling villain, extra quests, and a completely redesigned Bounty Board. Players looking for a real challenge will find it in the new Brutal difficulty setting. The game’s FAQ also says that players who participated in Early Access can keep their progress, but the developers suggest starting a new character to get the full experience.
So, I was watching the New Game+ Showcase, and the game directors, Daniel McLaren and Shana Markham, were talking about how much player feedback actually changed the game. Apparently, they initially planned for the story to be pretty simple, just there to support the gameplay – you know, a backdrop for all the loot and fighting. But players really wanted more, so they ended up expanding the narrative a lot! It’s cool to see devs actually listening and building on what we want.
You can play Towerborne now if you’re an Xbox Game Pass member. It’s also available on PC through Steam with Founder’s Packs available for purchase.
If you’re interested in Xbox games appearing on PlayStation, keep an eye on Avowed, which is expected to launch on the PlayStation 5 soon.
