Tron: Catalyst Early Gameplay Leaks

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my gaming belt, I must admit that the leaked footage of Tron: Catalyst has left me somewhat underwhelmed. The slow-paced walking and talking sequences aren’t exactly what I signed up for when I heard about this action-adventure title.

Earlier this month, we learned that Tron: Catalyst is set to be the sequel to Tron: Identity. However, it appears that gameplay footage from the game has already been leaked online by a playtester who seems unconcerned about NDAs (non-disclosure agreements).

For those unaware, “Tron: Catalyst” is an upcoming game being developed by Bithell Games and published by Devolver Digital. It’s a unique, narrative-driven, action-adventure game set in the Arq Grid locale, which was first introduced in “Tron: Identity”.

Indeed, the demonstration presented doesn’t seem particularly thrilling, but as they say, a leak is still a leak. Apparently, this leak originated from a playtest that participants can enroll in, and it seems the source of the leak isn’t overly concerned about potential consequences. This supposedly represents the initial mission of the game, where there appears to be a lot of walking, running, and dialogues between the protagonist and other in-game figures.

Regrettably, we don’t witness any Light Cycle action or conflicts in this game, although they were shown briefly in the trailer launched recently. Players familiar with Tron: Identity may notice the shift in gameplay style. Developed by Bithell Games, Identity was a puzzle-focused visual novel released in 2023 for PC and Nintendo Switch. It takes place thirteen years post-Tron: Legacy, allowing players to control Query, a program who delves into an explosion within The Repository, which eventually leads to the discovery of secrets about the world inhabited by programs. If you’re intrigued, feel free to read Game Rant’s review where they state, “Despite its limited exploration, fans of the Tron universe drawn to visual novels will appreciate the story’s decision-making, offering a unique perspective outside the typical digital and non-digital protagonists.

In the realm of gaming, I’ve been eagerly anticipating my role in the upcoming Tron game, Tron: Catalyst. Instead of stepping into a familiar character’s shoes, this time I’ll be embodying Exo, a tenacious and adaptable digital entity. What sets me apart is the power I wield, known as the Glitch.

Tron: Catalyst is set for release sometime in 2025 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
