Twitch Adds Requested Rewind Feature, But There’s a Catch

Twitch has now introduced a rewind feature that many users have been asking for, but it’s not quite as simple as just pressing a button. Both streamers and viewers need to adjust a few settings to start using it.

Twitch is the most popular livestreaming service, but other platforms like YouTube have offered features Twitch didn’t have – like the ability to rewind streams and rewatch important moments. Many Twitch users have been requesting this rewind feature, and now it’s finally here!

Twitch Adds Rewind Feature, But With Some Caveats

Twitch recently launched a new feature called Stream Rewind on September 25th. It lets viewers pause live streams and go back to watch moments they might have missed, then quickly return to the live action with a new “Live” button. However, Stream Rewind isn’t available to everyone right away. Streamers need to enable it on their channels first, as it’s turned off by default.

This new feature has a few requirements for now. Twitch streamers need to be either Affiliates or Partners and must turn the feature on themselves. Viewers need to be subscribed to the channel, or have a Turbo subscription, to use it. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy mentioned they might loosen these restrictions later, as they’re currently testing how to prevent people from using the feature to avoid ads. He didn’t say when the feature would be available to those who don’t subscribe, though.

Although many have been waiting for this feature, some viewers might be disappointed with how it currently works. Unlike platforms like YouTube, where you can easily rewind live streams without a subscription, Twitch’s Stream Rewind has limitations. Hopefully, Twitch will quickly fix these issues and make Stream Rewind available to everyone soon.
