- Twitch’s strict enforcement of Community Guidelines can lead to sudden bans like Nestor’s, causing frustration among streamers for unclear reasons.
As a long-time fan of CrankGameplays (Ethan Nestor), I must say this latest twist in his streaming journey has left me both amused and slightly bewildered. His recent ban from Twitch, due to an innocent mistake during a Wikipedia Speedrun, seems a tad excessive but also typical of the platform’s strict adherence to its Community Guidelines.
Ethan Nestor, also known as CrankGameplays on YouTube, has been banned from Twitch. Nestor has been diversifying his content by tackling more variety topics on YouTube and Twitch, and even co-hosting the Brain Leak podcast with Jacksepticeye.
More recently, Nestor concluded an extended 18-day subathon on Twitch, accumulating over 394 hours of gameplay and live, amusing real-life streams. However, barely a day after the triumphant conclusion of this subathon, the content creator was suspended from Twitch due to the inadvertent broadcasting of inappropriate content during one of his live streams.
1. StreamerBans shared on Twitter that Nestor had been banned, to which he casually replied “Oops.” Initially, several of his followers were puzzled about the restriction, given the recent questionable Twitch bans. However, they soon realized that it was due to explicit content shown in one of his Wikipedia Speedruns during a subscription marathon.
Why Was EthanNestor Banned From Twitch?
In a game called Wikipedia Speedruns, Nestor aimed to navigate to a particular topic using only links within a Wikipedia page. In this round, he was tasked with reaching the page about a female reproductive body part starting from the peanuts page. He managed to complete the challenge, but inadvertently displayed an explicit image of the body part for too long on his stream, resulting in a Twitch ban. The incident was later shared multiple times on Twitter, causing amusement and puzzlement among many viewers.
Twitch is very strict in enforcing its Community Guidelines, especially when it comes to sexual content being shown on stream, regardless of the medium. Despite the inconvenience that the ban caused, many fans found the incident funny, joking that at least Twitch was considerate enough to let Nestor finish the subathon. Some also said that it was only a matter of time before Nestor got banned because of the explicit image he showed on stream. As of writing, Nestor’s Twitch channel hasn’t been reinstated, and it’s unknown when the platform will lift the ban.
Although numerous broadcasters have been suspended from Twitch for violating its rules, some others have faced penalties without a clear explanation. For instance, AnimalisaKeys was unexpectedly suspended under unclear circumstances, even perplexing Twitch CEO Dan Clancy himself. The inconsistency in Twitch’s ban policy has left many streamers disgruntled because it can significantly impact their livelihood and earnings, particularly when channels remain inactive for years without reinstatement.
