Twitch Is Going To Allow Every Streamer To Make Money, Even New Users

The head of Twitch, Dan Clancy, shared some significant updates about the platform on its blog, highlighting major modifications, particularly concerning monetization, an area that has been a contentious issue for streamers.

It has become clear that by 2025, all streamers, regardless of their current position, will gain the opportunity to generate income through subscriptions and ‘bits’. Previously, these money-making options were only accessible to those behind the ‘Affiliate’ barrier; however, this year, everyone will be granted access to make use of them.

Does this devalue becoming a Twitch Affiliate? Perhaps.

Changes Are A-Coming

In the post on the Twitch Blog, the company’s CEO wrote:

We’d like you to utilize our monetization resources, regardless if you’re starting out with your community or are already an established Twitch streamer.

  • In 2025, we’re excited to open up monetization tools—subscriptions and bits—to most streamers, from day one. This will allow creators, regardless of their status, to grow their communities and start building earnings through direct patronage.
  • We’re also introducing an option, which will allow all streamers to use their earnings on purchases within Twitch.

Immediately signing up for Twitch will require you to progress as an Affiliate broadcaster initially, which enables you to receive donations in the form of Bits and Subscriptions. Essentially, there are some prerequisites that you’ll have to meet before advancing.

With these fresh conditions, anyone, irrespective of the number of followers they have or the duration of their streams, can make money on Twitch.

The clause about ‘many streamers’ seems intriguing. I would infer it’s included to imply that those streamers who have violations in their accounts won’t be able to use these particular features.

Apart from its current offerings, Twitch is planning to expand its sponsorship options for creators, aiming to host a greater number of promotional events by 2025.

This year, collaboration is key, as evidenced by upcoming adjustments to our ‘Shared’ functions like Hype Trains, Stream Together, and Group Chat. Additionally, it was announced in the blog post that mobile viewing will receive an enhancement, providing more options for users accessing content on their mobile devices.

Additionally, the clips will undergo enhancements, enabling content creators to discover additional editing options and faster means to distribute their content across a wide range of platforms.

I hate to admit it, but this update is a massive W for Twitch.
