TwitchCon Has New Rules to Keep Streamers and Fans Safe

I’m really glad Twitch is taking safety seriously for TwitchCon 2026! It’s such a huge event, bringing together streamers and fans in both Europe and San Diego, with all the meet-and-greets and panels. It’s awesome to see they’re updating the rules as the convention grows to make sure everyone has a fun and safe experience.

Going to TwitchCon is amazing – you really get to see your favorite streamers in person and they’re often streaming their experiences as they walk around. But it’s also been a bit scary, honestly. Last October, something awful happened to Emiru, a popular streamer. She was assaulted during a meet-and-greet when a fan hugged her without her permission. After that, Twitch made it clear they won’t tolerate any harassment and said they’re working to make security better at future events. It’s good to hear they’re taking it seriously, but it definitely made me think twice about how things are handled.

New TwitchCon Rules Explained

I just read Twitch’s latest update about TwitchCon Rotterdam 2026, and it sounds like they’re really prioritizing a positive experience for everyone. They’re making what they call ‘significant investments’ in safety and fun, and they’ve laid out some clear new rules, especially around IRL streaming. The biggest change? They’re introducing optional lanyards. If you wear one, it signals you don’t want to be filmed or approached, and streamers absolutely have to respect that. Break that rule, and you could be temporarily banned from streaming at the con, or even barred from future events. They’re also putting up ‘No Recording / No Streaming’ signs in certain areas, which seems like a smart move. Overall, it feels like Twitch is taking attendee comfort and boundaries seriously, and that’s great to see.

TwitchCon is changing how meet and greets work. Instead of just showing up, you’ll now need to make a reservation for each person. Twitch says this will help them control the crowds and make sure everyone – both creators and fans – feels safe and comfortable. They’re also planning to improve the layout of meet and greets, with more space between guests and the audience. Expect increased security to quickly address any issues, like unwanted encounters with fans.

TwitchCon IRL Streaming Rules

  • Streamers and attendees must keep pathways clear.
  • Streaming isn’t allowed in areas with “No Recording / No Streaming” signage.
  • Attendees should follow TwitchCon Staff instructions, including requests to stop streaming or relocate;
  • Attendees can wear designated lanyards to signal that they prefer not to be featured or recorded. IRL streamers are not allowed to interview or approach anyone wearing the designated lanyard, or who verbally says they don’t want to be on camera.

TwitchCon Meet & Greet Rules

  • Walk-ups are prohibited during meet and greet events.
  • Attendees and plus ones are required to make reservations for meet and greets.

TwitchCon to Beef Up Security in 2026

Twitch is reinforcing its commitment to safety at this year’s TwitchCons in Rotterdam and San Diego, not only by introducing new policies but also by boosting security. This means having more trained staff on hand to quickly address any problems. This move follows Twitch’s apology for failing to adequately protect streamer Emiru, and appears to be a step towards preventing similar issues in the future.

As a big TwitchCon attendee in the past, I’ve been reading a lot of the reactions to their new rules, and honestly, most people seem pretty unsure if they’ll actually make things safer. A lot of folks are saying the changes just don’t go far enough to protect streamers from harassment, and it’s hard to blame them. It’s tough to forget past issues – like that whole ball pit incident a few years back where people actually got hurt! If Twitch can really deliver on these promises and make the next event genuinely safe and enjoyable, it would go a long way in rebuilding trust with the community. I’m hoping they learn from past mistakes.
