As a devoted fan, I can’t help but reminisce about the last exhilarating installment of the Splinter Cell series that graced our screens over a decade ago. Despite countless requests and fervent hopes for a sequel from the community, it seems we’re still waiting for the next chapter in this captivating saga.
Since 2013, when Splinter Cell: Blacklist was released, fans have only been given one kind of treatment – the inclusion of Sam Fisher’s character in both Ghost Recon Wildlands and Rainbow Six Siege.
12 years later, unexpectedly, Ubisoft has revisited the game Splinter Cell: Blacklist by quietly incorporating achievements into its Steam version.
More recently, Ubisoft has been incorporating Steam achievements into certain games they’ve released in the past. For instance, Assassin’s Creed 3 and Watch Dogs 2 are among the titles that have been granted achievements even though they were initially launched on Steam years ago.
It’s great news for longtime fans of classic Ubisoft games, as they now have an incentive to revisit these titles and collect fresh achievements.
As someone who’s played my fair share of games, I can tell you it’s a relief to know that when I’ve bagged an achievement in a title on Ubisoft Connect, I won’t need to grind for it all over again if I decide to play the same game on Steam. That’s a huge timesaver!
I simply have to fire up the game through Steam and link my Ubisoft account, and voila! All the hard-earned achievements will magically appear on my Steam account too!
Online-Specific Achievements Are Removed
In Splinter Cell: Blacklist, certain accomplishments were linked to online platforms, which have since been discontinued since the game servers were closed down in 2022. Consequently, Ubisoft has taken out 19 achievements from the game’s Steam list, ensuring that players can still unlock all achievements by 2025.
It’s quite optimistic to assume that there remains someone at Ubisoft who hasn’t forgotten about the Splinter Cell series, and it’s possible we might get a sequel down the line. After all, here’s hoping!
In December 2021, Ubisoft unveiled plans to create a remake of the first Splinter Cell game. Since then, details about this project have been scarce. It’s being developed anew using the Snowdrop engine, which was also employed in the development of Star Wars Outlaws. Rumors point towards a potential release date in 2026.
