Following Ubisoft’s announcement that Jean Guesdon, a long-time writer and creative director for Assassin’s Creed, would be leading the franchise’s content, Guesdon recently discussed the plans for Assassin’s Creed in 2026 and the years following.
Guesdon started by recognizing that fans are frustrated and closely watching Ubisoft after some recent choices. He promised that Ubisoft will now be much more open about its plans for the game, clearly explaining its vision. This vision will honor what fans love about the game while also introducing new and exciting ideas.
The new Head of Content discussed plans for older Assassin’s Creed games. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will receive fewer updates this year, but Assassin’s Creed Unity will get a free patch tomorrow that unlocks 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Guesdon then moved on to discuss upcoming AC games, including both titles already announced and brand new reveals.
The Future of Assassin’s Creed
We first learned about Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe in 2022, around the same time as Shadows. It was originally called Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red, but Ubisoft hasn’t shared much official information about the game since then.
There’s been talk that Hexe will take place in the 1500s Holy Roman Empire and focus on the history of witch trials. While the game’s creator, Guesdon, hasn’t confirmed these specifics, he has said the game will be a darker, story-focused experience, and that it will be some time before official details are released.
Guesdon shared that Assassin’s Creed: Codename Invictus is a player-versus-player (PvP) multiplayer game being created by the Ubisoft Montreal team behind For Honor. However, he clarified that it won’t be the kind of game some rumors have suggested – likely addressing previous comments from Ubisoft sources who likened Invictus to Fall Guys.

While a release date for Invictus hasn’t been announced, Guesdon confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Jade, previously thought to be canceled, is still being developed. Alongside Jade, other Assassin’s Creed projects are also in the works, including one designed around cooperative multiplayer.
Assassin’s Creed: Codename Invictus is a multiplayer game focused on player-versus-player combat, and it’s being created by the same team at Ubisoft Montreal that developed For Honor.
To top it all off, Guesdon confirmed the long-awaited remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is really happening! It’s called Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and they showed a piece of concept art featuring Edward Kenway, the pirate-turned-Master Assassin, standing on a ship.

While an exact release date for Resynced hasn’t been revealed, it’s currently anticipated to come out in early 2027. Many believe Resynced is the game previously scheduled for February that was delayed, along with other titles from Ubisoft.
