Ubisoft has continued its recent series of layoffs, this time affecting employees at its studio in Abu Dhabi.
Ubisoft has confirmed that 29 employees were laid off last year, following a decision made in November, as first reported by Game Developer.
In November, Ubisoft decided to reorganize its mobile game studio in Abu Dhabi, canceling some projects to concentrate on the game Growtopia. This restructuring unfortunately resulted in the loss of 29 jobs, as reported to Game Developer.
We truly appreciate everything they’ve done and are helping them during this change.
It’s been a rough time for Ubisoft lately. On top of the layoffs in Abu Dhabi, they’ve also shut down the Halifax studio, and there were more layoffs in Sweden and other places too. I was really surprised to hear about Halifax – the union representing a lot of the people affected there is actually fighting back, filing a lawsuit and asking Ubisoft to be upfront about why this happened, especially if it’s about money.
TopMob has contacted Ubisoft to ask about future plans and whether there will be more job cuts. We will update this article if Ubisoft responds.
