Sources say Ubisoft is facing significant internal conflict, with some employees publicly criticizing company leaders. This dissatisfaction appears to be linked to the company’s current restructuring process.

Ubisoft has been struggling financially after some of its major games didn’t perform as well as expected. Last October, Tencent, which already owned a small part of Ubisoft, invested €1.2 billion (about $1.25 billion) to help. In return, Tencent received a 26% share in a new Ubisoft division called Vantage Studios, which is now in charge of popular franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry. Three months later, Ubisoft announced a significant reorganization, creating five creative teams, with Vantage being the first. Along with this, the company is working to cut costs and has asked employees to return to the office, saying this will help the new structure succeed.

As of early 2026, Ubisoft employs over 17,000 people worldwide, making it the sixth-largest video game publisher based on the number of employees. While the company had over 18,600 employees in late 2024, it continues to reduce its workforce to become more efficient. This restructuring recently led to the cancellation of several projects, including the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and five other games. One of the cancelled projects was a mobile game, according to a report from Jason Schreier in January. The identities of the other four cancelled games remain unknown.

As part of its reorganization, Ubisoft has pushed back the release of seven games originally scheduled for 2026. These titles will now launch between April 2026 and March 2027. Reports suggest that the much-anticipated remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is one of the affected projects.
