As a long-time gamer and Ubisoft enthusiast, I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing some truly remarkable games throughout their illustrious catalog. From the strategic teamwork in Rainbow Six Siege to the thrilling platforming adventures of Prince of Persia, Ubisoft has always managed to captivate me with their diverse and engaging titles.
Ubisoft is known for producing a large number of video games each year, often drawing from successful franchises to cater to a broad audience. While some may argue that their titles don’t set new industry standards due to similar gameplay mechanics, fans who appreciate familiar gameplay experiences will find enjoyment in the offerings from this renowned developer.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but be impressed by Ubisoft’s rich gaming legacy. With so many beloved franchises under their belt, it’s no wonder there are countless games to explore. For those of us eager to experience these franchises from the ground up, we have quite the journey ahead. From the early beginnings to the latest releases, each step uncovers a piece of gaming history that’s truly worth the effort.
5 Far Cry
Main Series: 6 Games | Spin-Offs: 7 Games
The Far Cry series is renowned for its high-octane gameplay. While the first installment, although outdated, may initially seem unforgiving with players easily detected from long distances and without warning, looking beyond this flaw can lead to an engaging introduction to the action genre. The second game, Far Cry 2, received praise for its immersive elements, despite having a predictable narrative. However, it was the third game, Far Cry 3, that truly put the series on the map and set key features that have since defined the franchise.
I’ve been a huge fan of the Far Cry series, but I felt that Far Cry 4 was just more of the same. However, my excitement returned with Far Cry 5, as it offered freeform exploration and captivating adversaries that added freshness to the franchise. Sadly, Far Cry 6 failed to build upon these innovations and left me feeling underwhelmed. Besides the main entries, there are some spin-offs that dedicated fans of the series should not miss out on. In particular, I’d highly recommend Blood Dragon for its unique take on the Far Cry engine, with vibrant neon landscapes and a healthy dose of cheesy humor.
4 Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
Main Series: 15 Games
Tom Clancy’s name is attached to various intellectual properties with varying degrees of achievement, but it’s undeniable that the “Rainbow Six” series has been a huge triumph in every aspect. This franchise is known for its tactical shooting mechanics and emphasizes cooperation among players instead of them acting independently. Isolated actions could lead to their swift demise.
“The latest installment in the Rainbow Six franchise, known as Rainbow Six Siege, remains a top choice among tactical shooter enthusiasts due to its vast collection of maps and operators. Its dedicated fanbase is a testament to the game’s engaging hardcore gameplay experience. Strategic-minded players who enjoy working together with their team and completing objectives will find Rainbow Six Siege an irresistible addition to their gaming library.”
3 Prince Of Persia
Main Series: 10 Games | Spin-Offs: 8 Games | Remakes: 2
It’s unfortunate that the Prince of Persia series doesn’t receive as much mainstream recognition as other Ubisoft games, but the more recent 2D action-adventure titles are quite enjoyable on their own merit. The original game in the series, which used rotoscoping, was an entertaining experience. However, some critics felt that The Shadow and the Flame didn’t live up to the hype of its predecessor. Nevertheless, it was far superior to Prince of Persia 3D, a notoriously flawed game that left fans questioning if the prince’s return was even possible.
When Ubisoft acquired the intellectual property, fans were delighted with the release of “Sands of Time,” which is considered one of Ubisoft’s most well-written games, despite needing enhancements in combat. These upgrades came in “Warrior Within” and “The Two Thrones.” However, the writing quality suffered significantly in these subsequent games. Regrettably, later installments have not been able to recapture the enchantment of the series, falling short of the high standards set by one of Ubisoft’s top titles in the “Prince of Persia” franchise.
2 Assassin’s Creed
Main Series: 14 Games | Spin-Offs: 17 Games
The Assassin’s Creed series emerged from the ruins of a scrapped Prince of Persia project, starting with its first installment which featured impressive world creation and enjoyable stealth elements that required minor adjustments to become a hit. This refinement took place in Assassin’s Creed 2, widely regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time. The captivating character of Ezio led to two more games being produced, before Ubisoft moved on to develop Assassin’s Creed 3. While this game was decent, it didn’t meet the high expectations set by its predecessors in the series.
In a nod to its roots, Assassin’s Creed 4 reignited the passion for the franchise. However, subsequent titles missed the mark, though fans appreciated Syndicate’s innovations. This led to a break in the series, which then adopted the expansive open-world and role-playing elements of The Witcher 3. For three games, this approach was met with both praise and criticism. Eventually, Ubisoft refocused on the core aspects of Assassin’s Creed with Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
1 Just Dance
Main Series: 16 Games | Spin-Offs: 22 Games
The “Just Dance” series by Ubisoft has seen tremendous growth, producing an abundance of annual installments and spin-offs. These dancing games have transformed into enjoyable social experiences, allowing players to dance together with their friends. Individuals can also enjoy playing alone for a great workout if preferred.
In each installment of the series, you’ll find a curated playlist of renowned songs, transforming tunes into memorable dance routines. Syncing your moves to the music and mastering the choreography creates an engaging gameplay experience that contributes significantly to Just Dance‘s enduring appeal as a leading rhythm game franchise.
