Ubisoft Has Acquired The Developers Of March Of Giants

Ubisoft has purchased a new game development studio. The French company announced on Monday that it’s now working with the team behind the game March of Giants.

The specific details of the deal haven’t been released, but Ubisoft will now own the rights to the game March of Giants, and Amazon will promote it on Twitch.

March of the Giants is a new 4v4 MOBA where players battle in lanes while controlling groups of smaller units. Ubisoft describes the gameplay as a mix of real-time strategy and lane-based combat, requiring teamwork and skill with powerful, large heroes. The game will be available as a free-to-play title when it releases.

By acquiring the Montreal studio, Ubisoft is bringing Xavier Marquis, a former creative director of Rainbow Six Siege, back on board after a seven-year absence.

Marquis expressed his excitement about returning to Ubisoft, stating it felt like a natural fit after previously creating significant projects there. He’s eager to continue developing ‘March of Giants’ with Ubisoft’s support, believing they have the resources to help the game reach its full potential.

Also returning to the company is Ubisoft Toronto’s former managing director Alex Parizeau.

Parizeau expressed gratitude to Amazon for their support at the beginning of the ‘March of Giants’ project. He highlighted the successful closed alpha as a positive sign of the game’s potential and explained that becoming part of Ubisoft will allow the team to work together towards creating a long-lasting and successful MOBA game.

Beyond the ‘March of Giants’ project, it’s currently unclear what Ubisoft intends to do with the team formerly from Amazon Games Montreal. We’ll probably learn more about their plans as time goes on.
