Ubisoft Has Put More Money Into Marketing Star Wars Outlaws Than Any Other Game

As a long-time gamer with a keen interest in the gaming industry and its latest developments, I have witnessed numerous marketing campaigns that have left me both impressed and underwhelmed. Ubisoft’s recent announcement about their significant investment in Star Wars Outlaws marketing has piqued my curiosity.

In their latest financial report, Ubisoft’s CEO disclosed that Star Wars Outlaws has received greater financial resources and promotional efforts from Ubisoft than any other game they’ve launched before. The CEO is optimistic about a successful debut due to the favorable response from the gaming community towards this project.

I’ve been excitedly anticipating the release of this new game, but after watching a newly-released gameplay video, I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed. The graphics seem rough around the edges, and it’s due out in only a few weeks.

Marketing = Success, Apparently

During the recent earnings call, Yves Guillemot, the long-time CEO of Ubisoft, said:

We’re taking into account several key factors for Star Wars Outlaws’ successful launch. First, it’s an highly anticipated game in the industry this year, generating lots of positive buzz within the gaming community. Second, we’re bringing a massive marketing campaign – Ubisoft’s biggest to date.

As someone who has worked in the gaming industry for over a decade, I can’t help but notice the stark difference between the marketing efforts of some AAA game publishers and smaller indie studios. Take Ubisoft, for instance, with their blockbuster titles like Watch Dogs (2014) and Assassin’s Creed. Their marketing campaigns were nothing short of masterful, leaving no stone unturned to promote their games. Extensive trailers, both CGI and live-action, billboards, ad spots, and more were commonplace for these titles.

From a devoted fan’s perspective, I am thrilled and believe that the upcoming months will bring significant milestones for Ubisoft. The excitement stems primarily from the anticipated launches of Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Additionally, the unrelenting enthusiasm surrounding live service games such as Rainbow Six Siege and XDefiant, which have surpassed expectations since their debut in May 2024, further amplifies this sense of anticipation.
