Ubisoft Hero Shooter “Project U” Opening Cinematic Leaks, But Can It Take On Marvel Rivals?

Summary

  • Ubisoft’s Project U is a hero shooter in development to compete with Marvel Rivals and Overwatch.
  • The game was once put “on ice,” reworked, and is still being worked on, with more leaks expected.
  • Given Ubisoft’s history with live-service games, Project U is likely to be free-to-play if released.

Is there space in your gaming schedule for an additional hero-shooter game? Whether it’s Marvel Rivals, Overwatch 2, SMITE 2, or another title, Ubisoft is hoping that you can make time for yet another one.

As a gaming enthusiast, I recently stumbled upon an early sneak peek of the highly anticipated hero shooter from the developers, code-named Project U by the company. The opening intro has been leaked, and boy, it gives us a glimpse into the character designs that Ubisoft is crafting for this game. It’s exciting to catch a glimpse of what’s in store!

Project U Is Ubisoft’s Hero Shooter To Go Up Against Marvel Rivals

As reported by the video creator, Ubisoft has not yet let go of this particular game. Previously, it had been put on hold for some time, but afterwards underwent modifications. Currently, the company continues to work on its development.

Expect more leaks to be surface, as the video uploader says there will be “more soon.”

On Reddit, several users from the community shared their thoughts about the game. A confirmed user stated, “Ubisoft continues to maintain ownership over this game.

A user on Reddit mentioned the project, and it appeared from their experience with closed tests that it didn’t hold much appeal for players, as they didn’t seem eager to play again. The user hinted that they had someone who tried this once, and this person, who is definitely not them, didn’t express a strong desire to play the game again.

It appears that Ubisoft has not yet revealed the game in question, and there’s uncertainty as to whether the project is still actively being worked on. If it is, it faces a significant challenge due to the immense popularity of Marvel Rivals, which shows no signs of decreasing any time soon.

Based on Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft’s CEO, expressing interest in producing more live-service and open-world games, it seems likely that Project U aligns with this vision. As of now, there’s no definitive information, but it’s probable that this project could follow the free-to-play model, unless Ubisoft intends to sell it as a boxed premium product. If that’s the case, given the success of free-to-play hero shooter games like Marvel Rivals and Overwatch, Project U might struggle if priced conventionally in the current market.

The recently launched multiplayer project from our company, known as XDefiant, failed to sustain its initial success and will be shutting down its servers by June 2025, a development that occurred only months after its release.

Besides XDefiant, Ubisoft has had several attempts at live-service games that didn’t quite hit the mark, such as the free-to-play battle royale game Hyperscape and Roller Champions, among others. However, they can also boast about games like Rainbow Six Siege, which has been successful for 10 years, as evidence that their strategies do indeed have the potential to succeed.

Are you of the belief that there’s still space for an additional first-person action game with a hero focus in the current market? Also, would you be open to trying out Project U if it becomes available someday?
