Since its launch in 2015, Rainbow Six Siege has been a dominant force in the first-person shooter genre. It stands as a prominent game under Ubisoft’s banner, boasting a massive following and a thriving esports scene. Its longevity, demonstrated by its ability to adapt amidst industry trends, makes it one of the top games in this category.
This coming weekend concludes the Six Invitational, an enormous $3 million esports tournament held in Boston, Massachusetts. On the last day, which is February 16th, Ubisoft plans to unveil significant details about the future direction of Rainbow Six Siege.
Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot has also alluded to big things being in store for the tactical shooter.
Consistency
In the past few years, it seems like Ubisoft has faced challenges with some of its other series, but the Rainbow Six franchise, particularly Rainbow Six: Siege, remains robust. This tactical shooter, which is over a decade old, boasts substantial player bases and continues to receive regular content updates with no end in sight.
In a previous conversation, I learned from Ubisoft’s team that they aim to expand Rainbow Six Siege to feature a grand total of 100 Operators. Currently, we have 74 Operators, with new ones consistently joining the roster.
Although there have been recent assertions about the imminent arrival of Rainbow Six Siege 2, I personally find it doubtful.
In a recent financial briefing, Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, hinted at an exciting prospect for the Rainbow Six series, implying significant developments are planned.
In the near future, you should be aware that we’re gearing up for a significant release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Looking ahead to next year, our strategies will involve enhancing Rainbow Six across all platforms, which is a strategic move that we believe will yield positive results. This is a significant step in our overall company strategy.
Ubisoft has put a lot of resources, including time, work, and funds, into developing Rainbow Six Siege. This game stands out in the esports scene as one of its mainstays, and it’s also highly reliable within the broader gaming market. It can be played on several platforms, features crossplay functionality, offers numerous maps, modes, and firearms, and continues to improve over time.
Love it or hate it, Rainbow Six Siege is around for the long(er) haul, and more is coming.
