Ubisoft Subsidiary Massive Entertainment Is Laying Off Staff

Massive Entertainment, a studio owned by Ubisoft and known for creating games like The Division and Star Wars Outlaws, has announced it is reducing its workforce.

In a post on social media, the studio called it a “voluntary career transition program”.

We’ve reorganized our teams and are focusing our resources to better support The Division franchise and the technology behind our games, like Snowdrop and Ubisoft Connect. This is part of our plan for future growth and development.

To help everyone adjust during this change, we created a program where eligible employees could voluntarily pursue new career opportunities with our full support. This included financial assistance and help with their job search.

Massive Entertainment confirmed they are still dedicated to their plans and creating enjoyable games for players globally, including the existing and upcoming titles in The Division series – The Division 2, The Division 2: Survivors, The Division Resurgence, and The Division 3. They are making good progress on these projects and plan to share updates soon.

This change happens shortly after Ubisoft launched Vantage Studios with Tencent. Vantage Studios will be responsible for major franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six Siege, and is the first of several planned creative teams. It’s currently unknown how Ubisoft will organize the remaining creative teams or which games will be included in them.

The announcement didn’t say how many employees would be affected. TopMob has contacted Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment to learn more about this “transition program” and how many jobs will be cut. We will update this story if we receive a response.
