Ubisoft Wants Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six To Be ‘Annual Billionaire Brands’

Ubisoft recently announced a significant company reorganization and provided a financial update. As part of this, they detailed plans for several ‘creative houses’ within the company. A few months ago, Ubisoft announced a strategic shift and created ‘Vantage Studios,’ and this latest announcement highlights the ambitious goals for that new studio.

The main news is that Ubisoft is relying on Vantage Studios, led by Charlie Guillemot, to revitalize its most popular game franchises. This comes at a challenging time for the company, which has recently announced more job cuts and project cancellations.

Scaling Beyond All Recognition

Ubisoft’s recent press release wasn’t entirely negative, but it did contain some disappointing news. Most surprisingly, they announced that the Prince of Persia remake has been officially cancelled.

About halfway through the presentation, the discussion shifted to Ubisoft’s network of Creative Houses. Ubisoft has five of these studios, each with a specific focus. The first one introduced was Vantage Studios, and they’ll be taking the lead on developing Ubisoft’s most popular game franchises.

The mission statement for Vantage Studios was detailed:

Vantage Studios is dedicated to growing Ubisoft’s most popular franchises into consistently successful, billion-dollar properties each year.

That’s a really ambitious goal. Ubisoft is aiming for its biggest franchises to each earn a billion dollars annually.

In 2024, it was reported that Rainbow Six Siege had made around $3.8 billion since its release in 2016. Over the past decade, the Assassin’s Creed franchise is estimated to have earned Ubisoft slightly more than $4 billion.

However, there’s ambiguity at play here.

Is Ubisoft referring to brands that generate a billion dollars each year? Or are they talking about creating brands valued at a billion dollars, with new versions released every year?

Achieving a successful comeback feels easier for some franchises than others. However, it’s hard to imagine certain series reaching that point. Take Far Cry, for example – they haven’t released a new game since 2021, and that last one didn’t perform as well commercially as Ubisoft expected.
