Ubisoft is undergoing a significant overhaul, shifting its focus to creating immersive, open-world games and services designed to continually evolve, and will be leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance the player experience.
Ubisoft recently announced a major company reset, which unfortunately means some games have been cancelled. Fans were disappointed to learn that the long-awaited Prince of Persia Remake is among the six projects scrapped. You can find details about Ubisoft’s new direction below.
Ubisoft is Looking to Create a ‘More Gamer-Centric’ Organization
Ubisoft is undergoing a major shift, according to a recent announcement. This change is due to a tougher market for big-budget games, more competition in the shooting game category, and the increasing expense of building recognizable brands. As a result, Ubisoft is adopting a new approach focused on creating games that appeal more directly to players, and organizing itself around specific game genres.
Ubisoft is now concentrating on large, open-world games and a business model where games are continuously updated and supported. They’re investing more in key areas, developing specialized expertise, and using the latest technology, including artificial intelligence to improve the player experience.
Yves Guillemot, the company’s CEO, has revealed a new three-year plan to cut costs. This will unfortunately involve canceling some games, closing several development studios, and reducing the company’s workforce.
Ubisoft is aiming to turn its popular franchises – Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six – into consistently high-earning brands, each bringing in over a billion dollars every year. Meanwhile, a former leader of the Assassin’s Creed team is taking legal action against the company. What do you think about Ubisoft’s new strategy of focusing on open-world games and experiences built for ongoing service, and how will player-generated AI fit into that?
