In the ongoing tale of Final Fantasy 14, each expansion broadens the horizons of unique, engaging content for various player types. Though much focus remains on combat-oriented content, occasionally, Eorzea’s artisans are granted enticing new journeys as well.
Among the grand endeavors in Final Fantasy 14, none is more daring than Cosmic Exploration, which sends various artisans and collectors on a journey to the moon and stars for extraordinary goals that reach beyond our planet. To help you fully grasp this fascinating aspect of the game, here’s an all-encompassing guide to explain it from start to finish.
How to Do Cosmic Exploration in Final Fantasy 14
Is Cosmic Exploration Permanent?
As a gamer, I can tell you that with the latest Patch 7.21 update, Cosmic Exploration has been introduced to Final Fantasy 14, offering an engaging and semi-permanent content segment within the game. In the coming major updates of Dawntrail, new star bases will be added, providing us players with opportunities to contribute and accomplish personal missions across various regions.
Regardless of your involvement in your character’s personal advancement, the milestones related to community development on the Infrastructure Index will keep moving forward. As for Cosmic Exploration, while we can’t predict its long-term content yet, it’s certain that players will always be able to progress their characters and earn its rewards. If it follows a pattern similar to Firmament, significant events like major FATEs will continue to be available for the community.
How to Get Started at Cosmic Exploration

Once you successfully open the door for Cosmic Exploration, make your way to the Moongate Hub (or Sinus Ardorum). Here, the game gives you freedom to familiarize yourself with all the features of Cosmic Exploration at your own pace. Begin by stopping by the Cosmic Research desk, located at coordinates X:21.1, Y:21.8, where Researchingway is stationed. They will provide you with access to Stellar Missions, Cosmic Research, and your Cosmic Class Tracker.

You can monitor your advancement through various aspects using your Exotablet, which is the mini-menu in the lower blue part of your HUD. Each app icon on it corresponds to a distinct feature of Cosmic Exploration, while your Cosmocredits and Lunar Credits are shown at the bottom.
To get acquainted with all your vendors and resources at the base, make sure to stop by each Non-Player Character (NPC). Here are a few key individuals: Orbitingway located at the Cosmic Fortunes counter (X:21.8, Y:21.1), Godgyth the Merchant & Mender who can be found at the same coordinates (X:21.8, Y:21.8) and offers tools and gear for all Disciples of the Hand and Land classes, as well as Mesouaidonque, who is near them and where you can exchange your Cosmocredits for various benefits.
Sinus Ardorum stands alone distinctly from Mare Lamentorum, an area accessible for you to traverse entirely on foot without using mounts. For seamless navigation, several warp portal stations are scattered across the region, transporting you swiftly to specific locations, especially those marked with missions and events. Although these portals offer great convenience, it’s suggested that one becomes accustomed to them. You can also make use of the ‘Stellar Return’ ability on your Heads-Up Display (HUD) for a free teleport back to the Moongate Hub without any cooldown period.
Starting out on your journey, Stellar Missions offer an excellent beginning. Finishing your initial mission not only propels you forward but also grants access to additional key aspects like Mech Operations and Stellar Achievements.
What Are Stellar Successes and How to Complete Them

As a space enthusiast, I’m always eager to set and achieve goals in my cosmic explorations. My Stellar Successes serve as a roadmap for these targets, reachable by engaging in diverse activities across the universe. You can access this list through the pink icon on your Exotablet. Here, you’ll find your Daily Stellar Successes on the left tab – objectives that I can complete every day following the server reset time.
At the same time, the right panel displays Standard Goals that demand considerable effort to accomplish, including tasks like finishing numerous Star Missions, partaking in Mech Operations as a pilot or support member on the ground, gaining access to various types of missions for distinct crafting and harvesting roles, and so forth.
Completing either form of Stellar Achievements yields compensation, with potential rewards such as large quantities of Cosmocoins, Lunar Coins, and Cosmic Study points.
How to Start and Complete Stellar Missions

As a cosmic explorer, I found myself diving straight into Stellar Missions the moment I embarked on my interstellar journey. These objectives were readily available from the get-go, allowing me to jump right in and start making progress without any delay.
To initiate a Stellar Mission, locate the green icon in the upper left corner of your Exotablet menu and click on it. This action will display a list of missions available for you to choose from within the Stellar Missions category. These missions are categorized by ‘Class’, starting with Class D missions first.
As a gamer, with each mission of a specific type I conquer, I’m granted access to tougher, stellar missions. To check out what it takes to unlock those higher-tier missions, just look at the bottom left corner of my Exotablet’s Stellar Mission menu. Oh, and did I mention there are weather-themed missions too? You can find them within the Stellar Missions menu, under the appropriate tab whenever there’s unusual weather in the region.
Outside tasks like Mech Operations and Red Alert Crisis Missions, these are your primary methods for acquiring Cosmocredits and Lunar Credits as income sources.
Should you ever find it necessary to terminate a Stellar Mission, just reopen your Exotablet, then tap on ‘Terminate Mission’ as an option. Remember though, irrespective of the advancement you’ve made within the mission, no compensation or rewards will be awarded.
How to Start and Complete Mech Ops Missions

In the heat of Sinus Ardorum, a special operation known as Mech Ops may randomly pop up. You’ll notice a slim blue box flash across your Heads-Up Display (HUD), alerting everyone nearby that a Mech Ops mission is about to commence somewhere on the map soon.
You can take part in a Mech Ops mission in two distinct ways. One option is to sign up as a pilot, and to do that, you must buy a Pilot Application from Alerot located at coordinates (X:22.2, 20.6). Each application will set you back 1,000 Lunar Credits.
When a Mech Ops mission appears on your Exotablet’s screen, you can opt to submit yourself as a Pilot through the Mech Ops menu. This puts you in a pool of potential pilots for the mission, but it’s not guaranteed that you’ll be selected. If you aren’t picked (and the likelihood is high initially), your Pilot Application will still be there waiting for you.
In addition to the standard Cosmocredits and Lunar Credit rewards, you’ll also receive a Big Bang Ticket which can be used at the Cosmic Fortunes counter.
Another method for finishing Mech Ops missions, especially if your application to become a pilot gets rejected, is by joining as Ground Support. Just navigate to the location marked on the map (identified by a red mech icon), and be there when the mission starts to get tagged as Ground Support. This allows you to collect items and assist in completing the mission.
How to Start and Complete Red Alert Critical Missions

Distinctive Missions called Critical Missions are found in Cosmic Exploration, and they often yield substantial rewards. Essentially, when such a mission becomes available, it’s worth postponing whatever you’re engaged in nearby to swiftly head towards it.
These tasks will have a ‘Red Alert’ message and a progress bar at the top of your screen. Within this bar, there are two progress meters that need to be filled by the tasks they correspond to (look for the icons representing the tasks on the left side of the meter). Just like other missions, you’ll need to navigate to the location shown on the map in order to get involved.
Pick the crafting or gathering job of your choice for the mission, then at the start, navigate to your Exotablet and tap the ‘Stellar Missions’ icon with a green color. The ‘Critical Missions’ tab will appear automatically. Select an objective matching your job to begin. If it’s a gathering job, you’ll need to traverse the mission area and collect a specific amount of resources. Once you have enough, head back to the drop-off point and deposit your resources to finish the task. As a reward for your work, you will receive both Cosmocredits and Lunar Credits.
When the two green bars at the top of your Head-Up Display (HUD) fully fill up to 100%, it signifies that the Critical Mission has been successfully completed. But unlike Mech Ops missions, this mission doesn’t automatically end after success. Instead, it persists for a significant 20 minutes. During this time, you can continue accomplishing the same objectives to earn substantial amounts of Cosmocredits and Lunar Credits until the timer concludes. Once the timer is up, you’ll receive additional credits of both kinds as a reward.
How to Participate in Cosmic Exploration Project FATEs

The Cosmic Exploration Project’s FATEs are the most extensive in size and happen singularly when specific achievements are met, thanks to each server’s player contributions. These FATEs resemble those carried out at Ishgard’s The Firmament, where everyone within the instance is invited to collaborate and accomplish various tasks.
Should the mission named FATE be successfully carried out, the foundation will undergo a change and growth, mirroring its overall development. In return, players will receive both kinds of in-game currencies as recognition for their efforts.
How to Do Cosmic Fortunes and Earn Rewards

At the Moongate Hub, you can engage in an exclusive, lottery-like game called Cosmic Fortunes, but only if you have sufficient Lunar Credits available. To access this game, head over to Orbitingway at the Cosmic Fortunes Kiosk (coordinates: X:21.8, Y:21.1). If you’re interested, they’ll offer you an opportunity to ‘pull a cosmic fortune’. However, each pull will set you back 1,000 Lunar Credits, so make sure you have enough before trying your luck!
When you reach a certain point, a vibrant dashboard appears featuring two distinct wheels to choose from. Each wheel offers varying prizes, detailed below. The icons next to the prize names show their location on the board (for example, carrot, music note, star, glasses). Wherever the top arrow lands on the spinning wheel decides your prize, making each spin a surprise.
Should you find yourself on the ‘Stellar Opportunity’ symbol (represented by a rainbow star), you’ll get an additional turn on a prize-filled wheel. Otherwise, whatever prize the wheel lands on is yours immediately. The prizes can include cordials, furniture, minions, mounts, clothing chests, and more. Remember that each spin requires a significant amount of Lunar Credits, so use them thoughtfully.
