Unbelievable! Meet the Naruto Characters Who Can Defy Taijutsu!

Summary

  • Only a few Naruto characters are immune to taijutsu, achieved through unique abilities or kekkei genkai.
  • Obito Uchiha can phase through attacks using Kamui, rendering him almost invincible.
  • Suigetsu Hozuki and Konan are also immune to taijutsu attacks due to their water and paper transformations.

The Naruto saga showcases an intriguing power structure consisting of three distinct ninja techniques: Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu. The resistance to Ninjutsu is a frequently discussed topic within the Naruto community, given its extensive application in both Naruto and Boruto storylines. On the other hand, there have been rare instances where characters exhibit immunity to Taijutsu, a phenomenon that is relatively unusual in the Naruto universe.

A limited number of characters in this universe have managed to pull off this feat, either via their unique kekkei genkai or acquired ninjutsu. Given that many fights in Naruto are heavily centered around ninjutsu, being resistant to physical combat (taijutsu) isn’t typically considered an exceptional accomplishment. However, it’s worth noting that having taijutsu resistance could prove very beneficial in the Boruto series, especially since there are characters who can nullify ninjutsu. Although such a character has not been introduced in Boruto yet, Naruto has a few potential candidates who possess traits that make them immune to physical attacks.

Defining Immunity to Taijutsu

Characters That Can Almost Phase Through Physical Attacks

Taijutsu essentially represents any hand-to-hand combat between two ninja. The idea of taijutsu immunity seems vague because it implies that a ninja can withstand or even avoid all physical harm in such confrontations, which is not entirely accurate. One could interpret taijutsu immunity as the ability to endure minimal or no injury from a physical assault. Yet, this interpretation would still be misleading since opponents would still manage to strike and inflict some degree of damage, even if temporary.

Thus, it’s more precise to say that being immune to hand-to-hand combat (taijutsu) means that physical attacks simply miss their mark or fail to impact the target at all. This specific form of immunity is quite rare among characters in the Naruto universe.

Obito Uchiha’s Intangibility

Obito Can Phase Through Attacks Using Kamui

First Appearance Naruto Shippuden, Episode 32 “Return of the Kazekage”
Debut Date October 25, 2007

In the realm of Naruto, Obito Uchiha is a character who stands out for his unique resistance to any form of taijutsu or ninjutsu attacks due to his extraordinary ability, Kamui. This power allows Obito to bypass both physical and chakra-based assaults, rendering them harmless against him. Notably, Obito’s invulnerability is particularly evident in hand-to-hand combat situations, where his adversaries would seem to pass right through him. While Kamui offers immunity for both ninjutsu and taijutsu attacks, its effects are more noticeable during physical confrontations.

At first glance, it may appear that Obito is effortlessly dodging his adversary’s attacks. In reality, though, the portions of Obito’s body touching his opponents are instantly transported to the Kamui dimension. This means that Obito can still get hurt if attacked in the Kamui dimension, but such a scenario is rare, as it would only happen if another character had access to Kamui, like Kakashi. Although Obito seems almost invincible due to his ability to phase through most things, it’s important to remember that the power of Kamui also has certain restrictions that keep it in check.

In his intangible state, Obito can’t attack his enemies because his attacks pass right through them. Plus, he can only maintain this form for no more than 5 minutes; otherwise, his body reverts back to normal. This was demonstrated in his battle against Konan, who employed a series of bombs to keep Obito’s Kamui active beyond the 5-minute limit. Had it not been for Obito using Izanagi to alter reality and survive the bombardment, Konan might have won. Despite Kamui’s shortcomings, its ability to grant invulnerability against physical attacks makes it one of the most powerful techniques available.

Suigetsu Hozuki’s Hydrification

He Can Convert Himself into Water Using the Hozuki Clan’s Kekkei Genkai

First Appearance Naruto Shippiden, Episode 115 “Zabuza’s Blade”
Debut Date June 25, 2009

In the Naruto series, Suigetsu Hozuki is a character who is nearly invulnerable to physical attacks due to his unique ability. This power comes from his clan’s special technique called Hydrification Kekkei Genkai. By transforming his body into water, he can swiftly avoid almost every attack, as he doesn’t sustain any damage while in this state. The Hozuki Clan’s Kekkei Genkai is considered one of the most powerful bloodline techniques in Naruto, although it doesn’t offer offensive capabilities. Instead, it provides an exceptional defense, making physical attacks ineffective against those who use it.

It’s important to point out that unlike Obito’s Kamui, Suigetsu’s Water-Release Technique doesn’t grant him immunity to ninjutsu. Instead, he has a slight resistance due to his technique, but he is notably weak against lightning-style attacks, given his entire body transforms into water. This was evident during the Five Kage Summit, where Darui managed to restrain Suigetsu using an electrified blade, causing him to remain solid.

In a different scenario when Sasuke and Team Hebi aimed to capture the Eight Tails, there was an example of Suigetsu’s unconquerable nature. During this event, Suigetsu confronted a tank and a full-blown Tailed Beast Bomb, a strike that would instantly annihilate typical ninja. Remarkably, Suigetsu managed to endure the situation by transforming into his water form at the brink of impact. Although this technique isn’t completely resistant to ninjutsu, this situation highlights that Suigetsu’s invincibility is not limited to physical combat (taijutsu), but also certain forms of ninjutsu as well.

Konan’s Dance Of the Shikigami

Dance of the Shikigami Allows Konan to Turn Into Paper

First Appearance Naruto Shippuden, Episode 125 “Disappearance”
Debut Date September 03, 2009

Characteristically steering clear of attention with regards to brute strength and power, Koonan’s unique skills primarily revolve around utility and evasion. Yet, it is her hidden ace that sets her apart – the ability to transform into paper, a skill that essentially makes her invulnerable to any physical ninja attacks. As a child, Konan developed an affinity for origami, a hobby she later integrated into her ninjutsu by mastering the Dance of the Shikigami technique. This skill enables her to manifest chakra as paper, subsequently transforming her entire body into layers of paper.

Yet, her invincibility is confined to hand-to-hand combat, as demonstrated in her fight with Jiraiya. Her paper form proved vulnerable to his Toad Oil jutsu and fire style techniques. Interestingly, she managed to keep up during her battle against Obito Uchiha, primarily by dodging his attacks through a transformation into paper. Had she not exhausted all of her chakra, she might have survived the encounter. Regrettably, even Obito’s final physical attack, which was initially powerless, proved fatal when it struck her in her weakened state.

Gengentsu Hozuki’s Liquidation

Used the Hozuki Clan’s Hydrification Technique

First Appearance Naruto Shippuden, Episode 267 “The Brilliant Military Advisor of the Hidden Leaf”
Debut Date June 21, 2012

Although Gengetsu is known as one of the most powerful Mizukage in the Hidden Mist Village’s past, he didn’t manage to create a lasting impact due primarily to his predecessors systematically altering the village’s history. However, the Fourth Great Ninja War provided an opportunity for Gengetsu to showcase his hidden prowess and demonstrate the full extent of his strength. Remarkably, even when confronted by an entire division of the Shinobi Alliance, Gengetsu remained unyielding, avoiding capture or sealing.

Gengetsu was a powerful leader in the Hidden Mist Village, but he didn’t leave a big mark because his predecessors wiped out most of the village’s history. But during the Fourth Great Ninja War, Gengetsu got the chance to show what he was really capable of. Even when many ninjas from different teams tried to capture him, Gengetsu was too strong and couldn’t be sealed away.

Gengetsu Hozuki’s unbeaten record can be traced back to his unique ability to withstand physical attacks, a trait shared by members of the Hozuki clan due to their Kekkei Genkai. In essence, this power is similar to that possessed by Suigetsu, enabling its users to transform into water and render all incoming physical attacks harmless. Throughout the battle, Gengetsu’s numerous strategic advantages and potent abilities were overshadowed by his immunity to physical attacks, giving him a decisive advantage in every encounter.
