Many beloved PlayStation games, both old and new, feature characters we’ll never forget. However, some equally interesting characters from other great PlayStation titles haven’t become as widely popular, which is unfortunate.
Selene Vassos
A Character With A Surprisingly Deep Backstory
Returnal is a particularly challenging PlayStation game, and it offers a high-quality take on the roguelike genre. While its fast-paced combat and rewarding sense of progress are well-known strengths, the game also features a surprisingly strong story centered around the character Selene.
Players trying to escape an alien world will uncover a character’s past and future. This game, featuring tough boss battles and roguelike elements, tells a compelling story about family trauma and repeating patterns of pain, all experienced through the eyes of the main character, Selene.
Knack
The Protagonist Of An Underrated Action-Platforming Series
While other platforming games might be more refined and captivating, *Knack* and its sequel still have a unique and endearing quality. The game lets you play as Knack, a creature made of magical relics that can grow or shrink by adding or removing those relics from its body.
Knack has a unique appeal, though the game doesn’t quite explore all its possibilities. Despite this, many players found the character charming, and it’s a pity he isn’t more popular among PlayStation fans.
Nariko
Heavenly Sword’s Protagonist Is A Competent Femme Fatale
Heavenly Sword is a quick but enjoyable action game, especially for those who enjoy titles from Ninja Theory. Players take on the role of Nariko, a warrior who must use a special sword to defeat her foes.
She’s a remarkably capable and courageous hero who doesn’t get the recognition she deserves. She’s clever enough to overcome the dangerous magic within the Heavenly Sword, which makes her incredibly powerful in fights – she easily defeats her opponents.
Trico
An Endearing Huge Dog-like Creature From The Last Guardian
It took a long time for *The Last Guardian* to be released, and unfortunately, it launched with some technical problems. Still, if you enjoyed *Ico* and *Shadow of the Colossus*, you’ll likely appreciate this game, particularly as you develop a connection with the creature, Trico.
This large dog-like creature can seem either adorable or intimidating, depending on how the player interacts with it. Most players choose to be kind, drawn in by its cuteness, and this gradually makes Trico a truly lovable video game companion. That’s why the game’s ending twist comes as such a surprise.
Sackboy
An Underrated Mascot Character Who Didn’t Get Too Many Opportunities To Shine
It’s unfortunate PlayStation didn’t focus on creating appealing, family-friendly characters, especially as they started targeting older gamers. They occasionally returned to genres like platforming, and that’s how Sackboy was created.
He first gained recognition in *LittleBigPlanet* and later became the main character in a well-received spin-off game. Despite being as popular as Sackboy, PlayStation didn’t fully support this character and gradually replaced him with Astro as their primary mascot for the PS5.
Deacon Lee Saint John
Way More Multifaceted Than Fans Give It Credit For
It’s unfortunate that *Days Gone* has a slow start, causing many players to give up on it too early. But those who stick with it will discover a surprisingly engaging zombie open-world game with real depth.
Deacon St. John is a good illustration of this. Initially, he appears cold and unengaging, but beneath that exterior lies a surprisingly captivating and world-weary character who is simply trying to survive after losing his wife.
Yuri Hyuga
One Of The Most Underrated JRPG Protagonists Of All Time
Shadow Hearts is a fantastic JRPG that might have become even more popular if Final Fantasy 10 hadn’t significantly changed the genre. While it initially felt a bit old-fashioned compared to Final Fantasy 10, players eventually recognized how truly excellent this dark and atmospheric role-playing game was.
The game centers around Yuri Hyuga, a confident fighter who can transform into various demons. He’s a complex and engaging character, and his connection with Alice is a key part of the story. After a major event, he struggles to accept the monstrous side of himself. It’s a shame he doesn’t receive as much recognition as other popular JRPG heroes like Cloud Strife and Yuna, considering how well-developed he is.
Delsin Rowe
Not Being Cole MacGrath Isn’t A Crime
While fans loved Cole MacGrath, it was pretty obvious after the second *Infamous* game that his story was on hold. *Second Son* then introduced Delsin Rowe, a fresh character with a really interesting and unique set of powers.
While Delsin’s playful and defiant personality is charming, it’s different from Cole’s more intense style. If people stop comparing the two, they’ll see that Delsin has unique qualities and skills that deserve recognition.
