Unity 6 is ‘On Track’ For a Fall 2024 Release

As a seasoned game developer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Unity’s announcement about Unity 6 has me both excited and cautious. The promise of a more stable and performing engine is music to my ears, as it could potentially streamline our development process and enhance the quality of our games.

As per the latest earnings call disclosed this week, Unity’s CEO Matt Bromberg has announced that the anticipated update for the Unity 6 game engine is projected to be launched in Fall 2024.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m excited to share some insider news about Unity 6. According to Bromberg, this game engine powerhouse is right on schedule for launch this autumn. What’s more, they’re confident that it will be the most rock-solid, high-performing version they’ve ever rolled out. Can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store!

Furthermore, Bromberg underscores the fact that “Unity 6 will serve as the foundation of our product line for many years ahead.”

As an enthusiastic follower, I recently posed some questions to one expert regarding Unity’s forthcoming runtime charges, the planned transition to Pro, and any prospective alterations in tier-based pricing.

Concerning rising prices, Bromberg mentioned that “they won’t happen immediately, but we anticipate they will occur gradually in the future.”

In simpler terms, the controversial fees that kick in when you develop or enhance your game using Unity 6 version apply. These fees consider games that have generated over $1 million USD in revenue within the past year, as well as those with an initial user base of 1 million.

In a separate communique to its shareholders today, Unity announced that their second-quarter earnings surpassed the expected benchmarks for both revenue and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA).

On the other hand, the letter points out a decrease of 6% in revenue generated by Unity’s strategic portfolio when compared to the previous year.

In May 2024, it was revealed that the new CEO of Unity, Matthew Bromberg, received a substantial compensation package, including a significant base salary and bonus, to take on his role. This move came after a period of criticism from fans, which led to the resignation of the previous CEO in October 2023.
