Reflector Entertainment, who created Unknown 9: Awakening, has recently experienced staff reductions following what their CEO described as the “misstep” or “failure” of the game.
In a post on LinkedIn, CEO Herve Hoerdt announced that he chose not to proceed with a project still in the planning stages, which means ending its development. He explained this move wasn’t feasible for our company, leading to job reductions.
As a passionate fan, I can say that the choice made recently echoes directly with the underperformance of the studio’s pioneering and daring debut project – an innovative Intellectual Property (IP) nestled within a vast transmedia landscape. The launch didn’t meet our high expectations, despite numerous delays and substantial investments in terms of finances and resources, and it wasn’t deemed worthwhile to delve deeper into this universe any further.
Hoerdt mentioned that the decision would also impact the back-office team since the studio plans to align its support teams with a “unified project strategy” they will implement in the near future.
He mentioned that when feasible, team members may be allocated to this project, as it’s associated with a successful Bandai Namco intellectual property that’s currently progressing quite nicely.
In closing, Hoerdt mentioned that those affected would be provided with severance deals, healthcare benefits, mental health resources, and additional assistance.
In an effort to get more information, we’ve contacted Reflector Entertainment about the exact number of employees affected by their recent layoffs. If they provide a reply, we’ll include it here in our report.
