Unleash the Fun: Top Mini-Games in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza!

In the Yakuza series, mini-games are nothing new as they’ve been repeated frequently. The game follows this trend with karaoke and batting cages being among them. However, this spinoff featuring the eccentric Goro Majima brings a fresh take to some traditional mini-games and introduces new ones as well.

In Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, not all mini-games are equal, and some can become tiresome when trying to complete specific side quests. However, outside of these missions, there are several enjoyable mini-games that warrant your attention and time investment. I’ll be listing the top mini-games based on pure fun factor.

As a fan, here are my personal favorites:

1. The surfing mini-game offers an exhilarating experience as you ride waves and perform tricks. It’s a great way to explore the beautiful Hawaiian landscapes while having a blast!

2. The fishing mini-game is another relaxing and rewarding activity that allows you to catch various species of fish, which can then be sold or used in cooking recipes.

3. The UFO hunting mini-game provides a fun twist on the classic cat-and-mouse chase, as you try to outsmart the elusive aliens. It’s a challenging and entertaining distraction from the main storyline.

4. The golf mini-game offers a more strategic approach to entertainment, with various courses and customization options available. It’s a perfect way to unwind after a tough battle or mission.

5. Lastly, the dance battles in the nightclubs are a lively and engaging spectacle that will test your rhythm and timing. They offer a fun alternative to combat encounters and provide a great opportunity to show off your moves!

7. The Ocean Hunter

And Other Retro Games

  • Location: Anaconda Shopping Center

For quite some time now, playing retro games reminiscent of the Yakuza series has been a favorite pastime for many gamers. In this immersive world, players have access to a variety of Sega Master System cartridges kept in Goro’s room and numerous arcade machines scattered across Honolulu. One game that stands out among the rest is The Ocean Hunter. This fresh addition aligns perfectly with the theme of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, given its treasure hunting focus. In single-player mode, adventurers can explore it within the local mall. On the main menu, players even have the option to join forces with a friend in co-op play, where they work together to fend off dangerous marine creatures and search for hidden treasures beneath the ocean waves.

6. Karaoke

Singing The Night Away

  • Location: Varied

In the Yakuza series, Karaoke serves as another engaging mini-game that becomes accessible through the Revolve Bar and later the ship. Although the variety of songs isn’t as extensive as in previous installments, there is one particular tune that players might find themselves returning to multiple times: “Farewell Ballad – Voyage to a New World.

In this game, the melody that sounds when Goro acquires his vessel establishes its overall zany atmosphere. Interaction within this mini-game is limited, primarily requiring players to synchronize button presses with the rhythm. However, the true pleasure derives less from the gaming dynamics and more from the engaging character performances.

5. Bang Bang Batting

An Explosive Game Of Baseball

  • Location: Madlantis

In Bang Bang Batting, a revamped version of batting cages from earlier Yakuza games, the setting is flipped in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, during your visit to Madlantis, the pirate hideout, starting from chapter two. Instead of baseballs, you’ll face cannonball attacks from pirates. Your character, Goro, will need to redirect these cannonballs towards exploding barrels. The more barrels that explode, the higher your score, which can later be exchanged for rewards. This is an entertainingly exaggerated take on a classic mini-game within this series.

4. Dragon Kart

Giving Mario A Run For His Money

  • Location: Anaconda Harbor Park

In Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, I found myself diving into the thrilling world of Dragon Kart during Substory Chapter Two, Dragon Kart Paradise. After an initial compulsory race, I was given the chance to take on numerous challenges and earn points for some exclusive rewards. If you’ve ever played a game like Mario Kart, you’ll have a good idea of what awaits!

In Dragon Kart, I zoomed around tiny tracks, battling opponents with speed boosts and gadgets such as rockets to gain the upper hand. It may not be the most groundbreaking kart racing experience, but for a mini-game, it’s a blast!

3. Sicko Snap

Do These Men Have Jobs?

  • Location: Honolulu (Trolley Stops)

Sicko Snap was initially featured in the game Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, followed by this spinoff. After completing the Substory “Snap Those Sickos Again”, players can engage with this mini-game. It’s somewhat similar to Pokemon Snap, but with a more adult twist. The protagonist, Kuroki, invites players on a trolley ride around Honolulu to capture images of eccentric men sporting peculiar outfits. These characters are quite lively, performing tricks such as hanging from buildings or zooming by on skateboards. It’s an entertaining mini-game, as the rewards are substantial, including exclusive recruits in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.

2. Crazy Delivery

Backflips And Burgers

  • Location: Honolulu (Varied)

In this game, you can access a mini-game known as “Crazy Delivery”, initially introduced in “Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth“. This side activity becomes available through the Stay Crazy Substory. Just like its namesake suggests, it pays tribute to another Sega game, “Crazy Taxi”. Unlike the original where you transport NPCs quickly, here you collect food and deliver it in an over-the-top manner to your customers.

Performing a few stunts on their bicycle prior to delivering a pile of burgers makes it simpler to earn points. While technically a backflip might compromise the quality of the food, customers find it appealing regardless.

1. Pirates’ Coliseum

A Tournament Arc Like No Other

  • Location: Madlantis

In the innovative gameplay of “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii“, one of the key features allows Goro to command an ancient galleon for sailing across the beautiful Hawaiian islands. Engaging in sea battles is a crucial aspect, offering an enjoyable yet not entirely novel experience. As players progress and reach Madlantis, they unlock the Pirates’ Coliseum, where ship battles take place in an arena setting. This mini-game allows players to then invade rival ships, leading to deck battles. The game offers various modes to conquer, some bypassing sea battles entirely and jumping straight into hand-to-hand combat.
