The game Monster Hunter Wilds boasts an impressive number of fresh monsters, surpassing a baker’s dozen. To add to this, there are also variants from previous games. For instance, one of the colossal creatures introduced in Monster Hunter: Worlds was Anjanath – a T-Rex-like beast known for its ability to spit fire.
In “Monster Hunter World,” Anjanath boasts a Guardian form with electricity coursing through its physique. Although this electrically charged twist on an established monster is intriguing, it isn’t exactly fresh. However, there are several entirely new monsters within the game that cater to both difficulty and enjoyment. Let’s evaluate them based on their combat innovation and aesthetic appeal instead.
7. Ajarakan
Asura’s Wrath
- First Encountered: Ajarakan Ablaze
- Area: Oilwell Basin
In this scenario, Ajarakan is a monkey, and the one that trails behind is known as Congalala. Unlike Ajarakan, Congalala is more of a humorous character from Monster Hunter 2. On the other hand, Ajarakan poses a significant threat, especially during the initial encounter when players find themselves squaring off against two of them. Ajarakan’s punches pack quite a punch and it possesses the power of fire, making it challenging for newcomers. Its design is intriguing, as it bears resemblance to character designs from another Capcom game called Asura’s Wrath, which was developed in collaboration with CyberConnect2.
6. Rompopolo
A Pet For The Helghast

- First Encountered: A Fuse Ignited
- Area: Oilwell Basin
In the Oilwell Basin, similar to Ajarakan, you’ll find the location known as Rompopolo, which belongs to the game’s third ecosystem. It will emerge from the gooey oil with fiery red eyes, somewhat resembling the Helghast soldiers from the Killzone series, who have glowing orange eyes. In essence, Rompopolo appears as if a mosquito underwent mutation and became more of an issue.
This unique design, while initially intimidating, loses some of its frightening aura once players encounter it. Despite being smaller upon second sight, it maintains an impressive level of design quality throughout.
5. Lala Barina
A Spider With A Beautiful Behind

- First Encountered: A Stage of Rose and Thorn
- Area: Scarlet Forest
As a passionate Monster Hunter Wilds enthusiast, I must say that the latest addition to our monster roster, Lala Barina, is nothing short of extraordinary! Unlike any other spiders I’ve encountered before, this one has an enchanting allure that is hard to resist.
Erik, a familiar face at base camp, unfortunately finds himself ensnared in a captivating trap set by Lala Barina. Players will need to free him from her clutches, and the challenge lies not only in breaking through her defenses but also in navigating the battlefield strewn with her luminescent orange pollen puffs.
What sets Lala Barina apart is her unique ability to lure victims closer with a rose-like abdomen before releasing a paralyzing cloud of pollen. This tactic adds an extra layer of strategy to the hunt, making each encounter against her unpredictable and thrilling. Even compared to seasoned veterans like Nerscylla, Lala Barina’s charm and cunning make her a formidable foe that leaves quite an impression in Monster Hunter Wilds.
4. Guardian Arkveld
The Cover Star

- First Encountered: Repel the Guardian Arkveld
- Area: Ruins of Wyveria
In this game, I’m the spotlight character they call Guardian Arkveld. There’s a distinct difference between the regular and Guardian versions, but we won’t delve into that here. As for Guardian Arkveld, he’s got a design reminiscent of Rathalos, with the addition of massive chain-like tendrils sprouting from his wings. These tendrils make him formidable in combat since they’re tough to dodge due to their size and long reach. As a cover monster, Guardian Arkveld is a solid addition to the series, but it’s eclipsed by the true lower-rank boss of Monster Hunter Wilds.
3. Uth Duna
A Watery Titan

- First Encountered: A Feast in the Deep
- Area: Scarlet Forest
In the game, Uth Duna serves as the initial monster that players can’t immediately conquer due to narrative reasons. It also marks the first titan-sized adversary, taking full advantage of the advanced capabilities of current consoles. This colossal salamander possesses the ability to generate massive tidal waves capable of sweeping players off their feet. Fortunately, many areas within the Scarlet Forest are inhabited by bugs that serve as grappling points for evasion and damage reduction. Despite Uth Duna’s design not being particularly terrifying, its confrontation is notable due to the thoughtful approach taken by Capcom in its design.
2. Jin Dahaad
A Cinematic Boss Fight

- First Encountered: The Rimechain Trial
- Area: Iceshard Cliffs
In the thrilling world of Monster Hunter Wilds, Jin Dahaad stands as another formidable beast ready for an unforgettable battle. The adventure commences as this skeletal-like dragon, seemingly constructed from bones, pursues players on their quest for secrets, relentlessly hunting them down.
Following the pursuit, competitors will encounter it within an expansive amphitheater resembling Uth Duna’s battlefield, adorned with numerous grappling spots. These grappling points serve a dual purpose: they can be utilized to pin down Jin Dahaad beneath debris for crucial blows. This fight represents another instance of a grand yet not overly challenging boss encounter.
1. Zoh Shia
The True Final Boss

- First Encountered: Guardian Zoh Shia
- Area: Ruins of Wyveria
As a dedicated fan, I must express that the colossal behemoth, Zoh Shia, strikingly diminishes any peril surrounding Guardian Arkveld. In comparison to previous encounters, this battle is nothing short of epic – yet, it stands as one of the most challenging in the game. Zoh Shia means business!
The captivating gimmick of this monster lies in its ability to encase itself in a creamy armor-like substance. As players, we must diligently chip away at this protective layer to expose its vulnerable form. Witnessing its transformative journey during the battle instills a sense of accomplishment, which is quite an achievement given that the new Wounds system in Monster Hunter Wilds already creates such feelings.
