Summary
- Pride Troopers of Universe 11 are powerful warriors fighting for justice and were handpicked by their God of Destruction.
- Members like Top, Jiren, and Dyspo showcase unique abilities and a strong sense of justice within the group.
- Most members are named after kitchen utensils, like how Top is Pot backwards.
In the anime known as Dragon Ball Super, it’s Universe 11’s Pride Troopers who almost defeated Goku and the rest of Universe 7. These powerful combatants are highly cherished by Universe 11, with every participant from that universe in the Tournament of Power hailing from this elite group. After the Tournament concluded and all universes parted ways, there hasn’t been much activity shown regarding the Pride Troopers since then.
The layout of this team is reminiscent of other Super Sentai groups such as the Ginyu Force and Power Rangers. They often strike dramatic poses and emit a flashy cloud of colored smoke afterwards. Yet, unlike their counterparts like the Gendarmerie Force from Dragon Ball or even the Pride Troopers in their original series, this team tends to maintain a more somber demeanor.
The Story of the Pride Troopers
Guardians of the Universe (11)
In the universe known as Universe 11, there’s an elite fighting force called the Pride Troopers. Their mission is to uphold justice across this entire universe. Whenever wickedness arises, these warriors send a contingent of their members to confront it head-on. The origins of the Pride Troopers remain shrouded in mystery. This organization is incredibly old and predates Belmod, who became Universe 11’s current God of Destruction about 240,686 years ago as per the Dragon Ball Super manga chapter 28 titled “The Gods of Destruction From All 12 Universes”.
In the Tournament of Power, only ten participants from each universe were displayed due to a restriction on the number of participants per universe. Yet, it’s important to note that the total number of members in these groups is significantly larger because Universe 11 has multiple bases spread across the universe, with Netfiss being one such planet among them.
To anyone encroaching on independent realms, there’s no room for mercy… Take note of my message. So long as we remain vigilant, the radiant flame of liberty shall never fade away!
Known Pride Troopers
Meet the Troop
It is known that only those Pride Troopers who participated in the Tournament of Power are recognized as members. Given that they were personally selected by the God of Destruction from Universe 11, it’s reasonable to assume that these fighters represent the peak of the organization’s power.
- Top: Despite not being the Pride Trooper’s strongest, Top is, nonetheless, the current leader of the group. He is also next in line to be Universe 11’s God of Destruction and is undergoing personal training with Belmod. Top has a strong sense of justice and often gives speeches about what he thinks is righteous.
- Jiren: Also known as Jiren the Gray, he is not only the most powerful Pride Trooper, but also the most powerful being in the entirety of Universe 11. Even Belmod is said to be weaker than Jiren. Like Top, Jiren acts for justice, although he’s not as flashy as the rest of the troops and barely speaks.
- Dyspo: The speedster of this superhero team. He blitzes his enemies with rapid attacks, and his large ears can hear even the tiniest of muscle movements, allowing him to predict his opponent’s next move and react accordingly.
- Kahseral: The Pride Troopers’ general is an expert at ki-manipulation, and his techniques involve turning ki into weapons like sabers and smoke bombs. He’s very compassionate towards his comrades and cheers them up when he notices something is wrong, like how he did with Top before the Tournament of Power Started.
- Cocotte: A humanoid girl with long, dark pink hair. Her specialty is creating domes of ki that can either trap an opponent or defend herself and her allies.
- Vewon: This member looks like he has the head of a dinosaur and the body of a human. His most notable move is the Justice Whip, which is a whip made of ki used to restrain targets.
- Tupper: A humanoid with teal skin, and acts as the team tank. Tupper can change his weight and petrify his skin to make himself sturdier.
- Zoire: A small creature with two horns, Zoire’s main move is the Justice Spin, where he rapidly spins, creating a whirlwind that can deflect ranged attacks and damage opponents.
- K’nsi: A short guy with blue-green skin and pointy ears. K’nsi shapes his ki into threads, which he can use to tie up a target to pull them closer or restrict their movements. They can also be primed to explode like mines when someone gets too close.
- Belmod (former member): While not shown in the anime, Toyotarou, Dragon Ball Super‘s illustrator, created a bonus sketch that revealed Belmod was once a member of the Pride Troopers. This was before he became Universe 11’s God of Destruction. He left to become a Destroyer because he had a disagreement with Gicchin, Jiren’s mentor. Gicchin believed in the importance and power of teamwork, while Belmod believed in individual strength.
It’s plausible that Gicchin could have been part of the Pride Troopers, however, neither the manga nor the anime definitively verify this. Jiren’s mentor imparted all his combat knowledge to him and was the one who advised him to join the Pride Troopers.
The Origin of the Pride Trooper Members’ Names
Almost every member of the Pride Troopers has a name derived from kitchen tools. The one known exception to this naming pattern is Belmod, a former Pride Trooper, whose name references the liquor Vermouth, much like how all the other Gods of Destruction are named.
- Top: Is just “pot” spelled backward. In Japanese, his name is “Toppo”, and if you swapped the positions of its katakana, it would spell “potto”, the Japanese pronunciation for “pot”.
- Jiren: Based on the word “renji”, which is Japanese for “oven”.
- Dyspo: A pun on “disposal”.
- Kahseral: His name is a close soundalike to “casserole”, a large cooking pan.
- Cocotte: No spelling changes needed. A Cocotte is the French counterpart of a Dutch oven.
- Vewon: His name in Japanese is “Buon”, which is based on “obun”, the Japanese pronunciation of “oven”.
- Tupper: His name is derived from “Tupperware”.
- Zoire: Pronounced as “zoi-ray”, and is a play on “reizoko”, the Japanese word for refrigerator.
- K’nsi: His name is an anagram for “sink”.
