The recently released Netflix animated series titled “Devil May Cry” showcases a wide array of demons and demon hunters perpetually engaged in combat using extravagant weaponry, extraordinary powers, and otherworldly talents. Given the game’s origins as Capcom’s renowned hack-and-slash franchise known for its diverse roster of powerful characters, this action-packed dynamic should come as no shock.
Over the course of only eight episodes, Adi Shankar’s Devil May Cry series introduced numerous prominent characters with remarkable combat skills, leading to thrilling action scenes. However, given the vastness of this fictional universe, by the end of the final episode, viewers find themselves questioning: Who among these characters exhibited the greatest strength throughout the show?
8. Echidna
A Terrifying Demoness Who Can Control Plant Life

- Series Debut: The Deep and Savage Way (Episode 3)
- Game Debut: Devil May Cry 4
In the series, it’s the central villain, the White Rabbit, who has enlisted numerous powerful demons for his private force. One of his feared combatants is none other than Echidna. This snake-like demoness possesses a distinct talent: she can create and control vegetation, making her a significant menace to Dante, Lady, and the DARKCOM hunters.
Echidna possesses a long body to ram against opponents, and vines for binding and strangling them. However, it’s her thorns that prove most lethal, as they are sharp, swift, and can release a burst of them in an instant. Despite her immense might, Echidna met an abrupt end at the hands of one of Lady’s specially designed demon-slaying bullets.
7. Agni & Rudra
A Duo Of Sadistic Demons With Fire And Wind Powers

- Series Debut: The Deep and Savage Way (Episode 3)
- Game Debut: Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening
The characters Agni and Rudra, portrayed as demonic siblings in this context, serve under the White Rabbit. At first glance, they might appear to be mere brawny warriors, but swiftly reveal themselves as invaluable soldiers. Not unlike their video game counterparts, they possess a unique ability: summoning swords, which they utilize not only for combat, but also to harness their specific elemental forces – Agni‘s being fire and Rudra‘s being wind.
In the Netflix adaptations, Agni and Rudra appeared significantly stronger than their game versions, as they didn’t rely on swords to manifest their elemental powers. Instead, Agni summoned explosive fireballs directly from his hands, while Rudra conjured powerful gusts of wind out of thin air. Remarkably, they were even able to use these abilities for swift flight. Their immense power necessitated that Dante transformed into his Devil Trigger form to overcome them.
6. Cavaliere Angelo
A Dark Knight With Solid Defenses And A Powerful Electric Sword

- Series Debut: The Deep and Savage Way (Episode 3)
- Game Debut: Devil May Cry 5
It’s undeniable that Cavaliere Angelo, being the final warrior of the White Rabbit’s army that Dante defeated, was unquestionably the most powerful member. He stood out in numerous high-action sequences throughout the series, and his portrayal as a formidable and fearsome demonic knight never wavered.
Similar to his video game character, Knight Angelo carries a colossal electric-charged sword. Furthermore, his dark armor and fiery wings offer substantial protection. It’s no wonder that this adaptation of Knight Angelo demonstrates such astonishing power; after all, he was one of the toughest bosses encountered in Devil May Cry 5.
5. Mary Ann Arkham (Lady)
A Skilled Demon Hunter With Hatred In Her Heart

- Series Debut: Our Lady of Sorrows (Episode 2)
- Game Debut: Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening
Mary Ann Arkham, more commonly referred to as Lady, is a formidable demon hunter within the ranks of DARKCOM and plays a pivotal role in the story. She’s known for her cool-headedness, strategic mindset, and unyielding demeanor. In combat, she excels at handling various firearms, including guns, assault rifles, and even her signature weapon, the rocket launcher named Kalina Ann.
Indeed, she possessed an array of bullets designed to vanquish demons, capable of causing a demon’s head to shatter. These unique rounds were indispensable in her inventory, as she even employed one to vanquish the White Rabbit during their climactic confrontation. However, what truly sets Lady apart is that she is not a demon nor empowered by demonic forces. Instead, she stands as a mere mortal with sufficient might and agility to engage in hand-to-hand combat against the most formidable supernatural beings.
4. The White Rabbit
This Antagonist Was Quite Powerful On His Own (Especially After His Transformation)
- Series Debut: Inferno (Episode 1)
In Netflix’s fresh take on Devil May Cry, the primary adversary is referred to as the “White Rabbit.” This villain is an original creation that draws inspiration from a character in the 2005 Devil May Cry 3 manga, albeit with loose connections. Contrary to his peculiar appearance and imposing persona, he’s not a demon but rather a human who sustains himself and amplifies his power by consuming demonic blood.
Initially, the White Rabbit demonstrated his strength on his own, primarily due to his cunning intellect and the acquisition of Sparda’s powerful sword, Force Edge, in the initial episode. However, following their encounter, he significantly increased his power after being defeated by Dante. This transformation occurred when he consumed a small demon known as Bloodstryke, leading to an enormous metamorphosis. As a result, the White Rabbit evolved into a massive beast that could engage Dante in direct combat and effortlessly slay numerous DARKCOM soldiers. Remarkably, even with this size, he retained the ability to wield Force Edge single-handedly. Given his newfound power, it was only through the joint efforts of Lady and Dante that they were able to defeat him.
3. Vergil
His Brief Appearance Was Enough To Cement Him As A Major Threat
- Series Debut: At the Gates of Paradise (Episode 7)
- Game Debut: Devil May Cry
In the seventh episode of the series, long-time fans of “Devil May Cry” were thrilled to discover that Vergil, a key character, is indeed alive and has been secretly collaborating with the White Rabbit within the demon realm. Although his short screen time didn’t fully demonstrate his immense power, it was sufficient to set up Vergil as a significant adversary for Dante in potential future seasons.
In the opening scene, Vergil dons his familiar Nelo Angelo armor, indicating he’s been upgraded by Mundus earlier. However, in the last episode of the season, he reverts to his human-like form and employs his signature sword, Yamato, performing the renowned Judgement Cut that dismembers numerous human soldiers. Furthermore, it can be inferred that he possesses the same extraordinary abilities as Dante, such as a Devil Trigger mode.
2. Dante
This Version Of The Main Character Did Not Disappoint
- Series Debut: Inferno (Episode 1)
- Game Debut: Devil May Cry
In this modern take on the character Dante, there was a significant legacy to live up to. The depiction of Dante in video games has consistently been that of a powerful, heroic, and charming being who is half-human and half-demon. Thankfully, he didn’t falter in meeting expectations. Although this Dante might be younger and less seasoned, he hasn’t lost the distinctive abilities that make him stand out.
In simpler terms, Dante possesses extraordinary physical abilities such as super strength and speed due to his demonic lineage. These traits are highlighted throughout scenes where he engages in combat with humans. His healing abilities are remarkable, evident when his face miraculously recovered after an explosion. He’s proficient with firearms and excels at sword fighting, particularly when wielding his unique weapon, the Rebellion sword. Of course, Dante’s arsenal is not complete without his Devil Trigger form, a powerful ability he acquired in episode three.
1. Mundus
This Demon Lord Has Taken Over Hell

- Series Debut: Inferno (Episode 1)
- Game Debut: Devil May Cry
In the fresh “Devil May Cry” series, numerous powerful fighters are showcased, yet one individual stands head and shoulders above the rest in terms of might. Interestingly, this character seldom makes an appearance within the narrative’s scope. Initially, we learn that Sparda was a valiant demon who defied his master, Mundus, and utilized his power to erect a boundary segregating the human realm from the demonic one. Later on, it’s disclosed that Mundus exploited this barrier to seize control over the demon world, ruling it tyrannically with an iron fist while positioning himself at its pinnacle. He subjected numerous Makaians to enslavement in the process.
From what I’ve gathered from the series, it seems that Mundus stands as the supreme demon, an entity of immense power. The legends suggest that only Sparda, a formidable figure, could challenge him. However, there’s a catch – rumors suggest that Sparda has already met his end. This leaves us with a potential future battle: Sparda’s sons, Dante and Vergil, might be the ones to step up and vanquish Mundus, ending his reign of terror. But first, they must grow stronger, as taking down such a formidable foe will require all their might and skill, which may not be fully developed yet, especially in the current season.
