In “Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny,” we follow the journey of a freshly-minted demon-slayer named Jubei Yagyu, who is a descendant of the esteemed Yagyu clan. Haunted by the memory of his slain kin, Jubei seeks revenge against Lord Nobunaga, a character familiar from various games, who orchestrated the attack by demons on the Yagyu clan. Throughout his quest, Jubei receives assistance from Kotaro, Magoichi, Ekei, and Oyu, each wielding their unique weapons.

In the game Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, Jubei starts with a unique katana that doesn’t have a ranking. During the prologue, it is only significant for around five minutes. However, throughout the rest of the game, players can discover seven distinct weapons for Jubei. These weapons will be arranged based on their power and utility, but to avoid spoilers, I won’t reveal the order or details for those who haven’t completed the game yet.

7. Bow

Shoot To Kill

In this game world, I, as Jubei, stumbled upon an old blacksmith shop in town. Inside, I discovered a bow – a useful tool for sure, but not one I’ll be relying on heavily. The arrows are mostly regular ones, but there are some that burst into flames upon release, dealing extra damage over time. However, this bow is quite slow, making me an easy target when enemies retaliate with their own arrows or those lying around on the ground.

So, unless I’m in a tight spot where no other options exist, I find myself avoiding using this bow too much. It doesn’t match up to the powerful bows found in other games, but it still has its place in my arsenal.

6. Tanegashima

A Powder Keg Ready To Blow

As a fan, I’d enthusiastically say: The Tanegashima stands out for me as a superior ranged weapon compared to the bow, in any arrow form. Despite using an older flintlock design, it allows for quick successive shots. What’s more, compared to drawing and aiming a bow, handling the Tanegashima is noticeably faster.

In the game Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, ammunition is scarce, as one might expect from a horror title that focuses more on action than survival. However, if players manage to gather a sufficient amount of bullets, they can maintain their safety by shooting demons from a distance with relative ease.

5. Rekka-Ken

A Fiery Greatsword

In the game, the Rekka-Ken is the ultimate weapon you’ll obtain, appearing as a large, fiery-infused great sword. It’s the most powerful weapon available, but its application is restricted. Players can earn it by venturing into the Phantom Realm at their discretion. Once there, they’ll battle two bosses upon acquiring the Rekka-Ken. Despite dealing significant damage and creating an impressive ring of fire, it shouldn’t be overvalued beyond ranged weapons. The Rekka-Ken is primarily useful for story progression for approximately fifteen minutes, or longer if players choose to grind souls with it.

4. Hyoujin-Yari

A Spear Tipped With Ice

In the game, the Hyoujin-Yari is a spear that’s imbued with icy power as its special trait. It becomes the second weapon that players encounter. This ice-infused spear boasts a moderately swift attack pattern to effectively tackle enemies appearing on either side of the screen. The reach players can achieve through its jabbing motion ensures they maintain a secure striking distance from their foes too.

What makes Hyoujin-Yari stand out is its ice assault, which causes the spear to plunge and generate a tiny icy ripple to immobilize adversaries. Despite being effective, this special move is tricky to hit accurately, leading players to squander a significant amount of magic power during combat. This can be frustrating, especially in a survival horror game where resources are scarce and conserving energy is crucial.

3. Buraitou

A Katana With An Electric Edge

In the game, the Buraitou serves as the initial weapon for players, replacing Jubei’s standard katana. This sword is both quicker and more powerful compared to his default weapon. Furthermore, as players enhance it with upgrades, its size increases progressively.

In the game Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, the Buraitou sword pulses with electricity. When players clash swords with it, Jubei unleashes a flurry of rapid jabs culminating in a thunderous strike from overhead. This weapon is ideal for one-on-one combat against bosses or larger enemies, though it’s tricky to execute compared to other attacks. Enemies might even get hit by the lightning blast accidentally, but it’s not as easy to control as some other moves. The Buraitou can be seen as a sort of ‘vaccine’ against the challenging bosses that Capcom is known for in their games.

2. Dokoutsui

Smash Earth With This Hammer

In summary, the Dokoutsui is the ultimate weapon players can acquire, resembling a colossal hammer. Action games often require a formidable yet sluggish weapon, and the Dokoutsui fits that description perfectly. Unlike its blade counterparts, it lacks the tactile feedback, but rest assured, foes will succumb more swiftly to its mighty blows.

What sets the Dokoutsui apart is its unique earth-based assault, capable of striking every onscreen adversary with a mighty blow from beneath. Remarkably, it can also attack enemies on rooftops, rendering traditional bows and guns nearly redundant. Plus, it consumes minimal magic power, making it an exceptional choice for taking down large groups of enemies.

1. Senpumaru

Doubled Bladed Wind Damage

The versatile weapon called Senpumaru, found in the game, stands out as the most balanced choice. This wind-wielding tool generates a whirlwind starting from Jubei’s position. It serves well against groups of adversaries, though its utility is more defensive. Compared to the Dokoutsui, it targets fewer onscreen enemies, but makes up for this by being quicker to deploy and striking multiple foes even with regular attacks. The Senpumaru is one of the most exciting weapons in the Onimusha series, and after unlocking it, players might find themselves overlooking the others for many battles.
