Summary
- Sonic X Shadow Generations is currently offering the Sonic Jam skin for free on all platforms.
- The skin was initially reserved for fans who signed up for Sega’s online newsletter before the game’s release.
In the upcoming game “Sonic X Shadow Generations” released in October 2024, fans of Sonic the Hedgehog can now obtain the DLC skin from “Sonic Jam” for free. This exciting update brings a sense of nostalgia to players who have followed the adventures of Sonic and his rival Shadow, as it offers a remastered version of the 2011 anniversary title “Sonic Generations”. In this updated game, classic levels from previous “Sonic” games have been reimagined with new music. Moreover, the new “Sonic X Shadow Generations” package includes a campaign focused on Shadow, allowing players to race through some of his iconic stages and fight against his toughest adversaries.
As a gamer, I could crank up the nostalgia levels in Sonic X Shadow Generations by picking from a handful of retro-styled DLC skins for both Sonic and Shadow. Sonic’s skin is reminiscent of his look during the Sega Dreamcast era from Sonic Adventure, while Shadow gets a Terios-themed outfit inspired by the prototype version of the black blur from Sonic Adventure 2. For those who signed up for Sega’s online newsletter prior to the release of Sonic X Shadow Generations, there’s an additional skin for Sonic based on his appearance in the obscure Sega Saturn title, Sonic Jam – a compilation of the four main Sonic games from the Sega Genesis era.
The opportunity to acquire the “Sonic Jam” skin has passed, however, Sega is providing a second chance for those who missed it initially, allowing players of “Sonic X Shadow Generations” to obtain Sonic’s low-poly look. According to Sonic Stadium, the “Sonic X Shadow Generations Sonic Jam” DLC skin is now accessible for free on all significant platforms such as Steam Store, Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store. Similar to when it was provided as a pre-release bonus, the “Sonic Jam” skin can be applied to the sidescrolling Classic Sonic to give him an early 3D-era low-polygon appearance.
Sonic X Shadow Generations Sonic Jam DLC Skin is Now Free
For fans who recall it, the low-poly style carries a lot of nostalgia since it was present during Sonic’s initial foray into 3D gaming. The “Sonic Jam” game came out a year before the original “Sonic Adventure” and offered a 3D “Sonic World” where players could roam around to discover bonus content such as game manuals, TV ads, complete special missions, and even interact with Sonic’s helpful sidekick, Tails.
The game titled “Sonic X Shadow Generations” garnered positive feedback upon its release in October. Particularly noteworthy was the “Shadow Generations” segment, which expanded on the open-world gameplay style introduced in “Sonic Frontiers”, and equipped Shadow with an array of new “Doom Power” skills to traverse reimagined stages more efficiently. In December, a DLC level themed after the “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” movie was added to “Sonic X Shadow Generations”. This additional content featured Keanu Reeves reprising his role as Shadow from the movie.
