In the upcoming Destiny 2 episode known as “Heresy,” due on February 4th, Bungie unveils additional details about the forthcoming fragile mods for legendary weapons. As the release date approaches, it’s clear that change is imminent within Destiny 2. Although there are still many secrets to be uncovered, Bungie has already shared a significant amount of new information in anticipation of this major content update.
In addition to recent blog updates, Bungie provided fans a detailed glimpse of Episode Heresy through a recent Destiny 2 live broadcast. The interactive session highlighted Heresy’s main gameplay activity titled The Nether, which seems to incorporate elements from the corrupted Leviathan during Season of the Haunted. This engaging experience will involve both exploration and combat, as players plunge into the Dreadnaught with exclusive modifiers and enemies to ensure that every playthrough offers a unique and refreshing experience.
In the display, weapons played a significant role too, as Bungie announced that fan-favorite weapons from previous seasons like Season of Arrivals and Vault of Glass, including the renowned Destiny 2 hand cannon Fatebringer, will be accessible again. The focus of the presentation was on the new Episode Heresy weapons, with emphasis on a Strand-powered support autorifle named Adamantite and an arc area denial grenade launcher called Psychopomp being introduced. However, the “Heretical Arsenal” has more than just these weapons; it introduces a novel mechanic called Fragile Mods as well.
The weapons were important in the showcase too, as Bungie revealed that popular weapons from past seasons such as Season of Arrivals and Vault of Glass, including Destiny 2’s hand cannon Fatebringer, will be available again. The main focus of the presentation was on new Episode Heresy weapons, which include a Strand-powered support autorifle called Adamantite and an arc area denial grenade launcher called Psychopomp. Additionally, the “Heretical Arsenal” has something extra: a new mechanic called Fragile Mods.
Destiny 2 Episode Heresy Fragile Mods Explained
In “Destiny 2,” the Heretic weapons can possess two Origin traits, distinctive visual effects, and additional perks. Additionally, they can be enhanced with Fragile Mods. Bungie’s recent blog post suggests that these mods come with unique weapon abilities, opening up new character build possibilities and boosting the weapon’s power beyond standard levels. Bungie has hinted that these mods will need to be earned, and currently, only two are available during Act 1, with more to be introduced in Acts 2 and 3. However, it’s worth noting that these mods are temporary, lasting only for the entirety of Episode Heresy before they’re taken out.
For some fans who enjoy using Fragile Mods, it might be disheartening to learn that they expire. Given that Destiny 2 is planning for an evolution with Codename Frontiers this summer and there are many undisclosed details, it’s not unexpected that changes will occur. In fact, considering the trend of seasonal content from the past year being taken out or vaulted before a new expansion release, it seems reasonable to anticipate something similar prior to the full launch of Codename Frontiers.
