Players of Stardew Valley understand that numerous craftable items exist, enhancing farm life or boosting profitability. One such valuable item is the keg, which transforms various items into artisan beverages, significantly increasing the sale price of the original item. In essence, these kegs are almost indispensable in Stardew Valley.
Making Kegs
To learn the blueprint for brewing kegs in this game, players need to progress to level 8 in their farming skills. Once reached, you can create a keg by gathering 30 pieces of wood, 1 copper bar, 1 iron bar, and one unit of oak resin. Gathering the initial three components is straightforward since they can be found by chopping down trees or mining for ores. To obtain the ore, players will need to mine and then smelt it using a furnace (which can be crafted with 25 stones and 20 copper ores). Additionally, you’ll require a piece of coal to smelt one bar of any ore.
After acquiring the wooden and metal rods, only obtaining oak resin is left for players. To proceed, they must build a tapping tool, which can be fashioned once they reach level 3 in foraging and gather 40 pieces of wood and 2 copper bars. Once crafted, this tapping tool can be positioned on an oak tree to yield oak resin approximately every week.
Besides these, you have a few more options to get Kegs in Stardew Valley without crafting:
- Prize Machine – The 19th Prize is 4 Kegs.
- Artisan Bundle or Brewer’s Bundle – Completing one of Bundles will reward you with one Keg.
Using Kegs

Kegs can be used to make seven different items, which are as follows:
- Beer
- Coffee
- Green Tea
- Juice
- Mead
- Pale Ale
- Wine
- Vinegar
In a keg, wheat is left to ferment for a day, producing beer that sells for 200 gold. On the other hand, coffee can be made by adding five beans to a container and letting it brew for two hours; each cup of this beverage goes for 150 gold. Notably, consuming coffee provides an increase in speed for the player, allowing them to move faster. Green tea is created by steeping one bunch of tea leaves over a period of three hours and sells for 100 gold. However, green tea offers temporary benefits: it can boost the player’s maximum energy by 30 points for approximately 4 minutes and 12 seconds in real time, and it also provides a +0.5 bonus to speed.
Infusing any vegetable into a keg over a span of four days creates juice, which can be sold at a price 2.25 times higher than the base selling price of the vegetable employed in the process. It’s important to mention that the Health and Energy values of the final Juice are twice as much as the standard Health and Energy of the ingredients involved.
Making mead takes approximately 10 hours when you ferment honey with a barrel, fetching a price of 200 gold. On the other hand, pale ale, crafted within a day or two by incorporating hops, fetches a higher price of 300 gold.
Infusing any chosen fruit into a container over a span of 6.25 days will produce wine that can be sold for three times the initial cost of the fruit. Similar to juice, the health and energy benefits of wine are amplified by the quality of its ingredients, with a multiplier factor of x1.75.
To sum up, leaving one rice grain inside a keg for ten hours will yield vinegar valued at 100 gold pieces. While it may not significantly boost your Health or Energy, this process will come in handy when preparing an assortment of delicious dishes.
It’s important to note that acquiring tea leaves might involve a slightly longer process compared to other items. In the game Stardew Valley, you can find tea saplings from a traveling cart in Cindersap Forest or, if you have built a relationship with Caroline (requires 2 hearts of affection), she may offer you her tea sapling. However, if you choose the latter, you’ll receive the recipe to create your own tea saplings, which require 2 bags of wild seeds, 5 fiber, and 5 wood.
These beverages – wine, mead, beer, and pale ale – are unique in that their taste can further improve once they’re stored in Stardew Valley’s barrels after being kegged. You can acquire multiple barrels with the final house upgrade, but you can also craft more by using 20 pieces of wood and 1 piece of hardwood. If these drinks reach Iridium quality when kept in a barrel, their value will be doubled.
