In Civilization VII, I can tell you from personal experience, digging up most of the Artifacts essential for a Culture Victory isn’t something that just happens naturally or through casual gameplay. Instead, it’s my Explorers who will be tasked with unearthing these treasures. However, let me warn you, it’s not as straightforward as it might seem!

This is due to the fact that other civilizations will also be searching for artifacts, which makes it extremely challenging for players to collect the fifteen required for unlocking the World’s Fair. Fortunately, with an adequate number of Explorers and a well-thought-out strategy, gathering sufficient Civ 7 Artifacts to achieve a Culture Victory becomes significantly easier for Civilization VII players.

How to Get More Artifacts in Civ 7

Unlike many other victory methods in Civilization VII, achieving a Culture Victory relies more on strategy than speed. Even if all Artifacts have been claimed by about 35% Age Progression, rushing headlong without a plan will likely leave players short of the necessary 15 Artifacts for the World’s Fair, with few chances to make amends.

To acquire 15 Artifacts in Civ 7, it is crucial to grasp the mechanism behind unlocking Artifacts. Begin by researching the Natural History Civic. Subsequently, construct a Museum and proceed to train approximately six Explorers. Distribute these trained Explorers evenly across the continent where your Museum stands.

To get a clearer look at the boundaries between continents, players can open the mini-map and select the “Continents” option. This feature not only assists players in distinguishing between the two continents but also makes it simpler to locate Artifact digging spots later in the game.

When prepared, players should dispatch one of their Explorers to either their museum (alternatively, a university if available from a previous era) and select the ‘Study Artifacts’ option. Subsequently, it would be beneficial for them to promptly send each Explorer to an excavation site and instruct them to commence digging upon arrival. Keep in mind that dig sites are denoted on the map by a shovel icon; however, they won’t become visible until after players have researched them first.

Once all Artifacts on the continent have been successfully unearthed, players may now direct their Explorers towards new territories and distribute them evenly. If they already possess a settlement in these areas, they can construct a Museum and assign one Explorer to study Artifacts there. In the absence of a settlement, they should seek out a Museum or University within another civilization’s settlements for further learning. These educational institutions are easily identifiable by their question mark icons.

Following another thrilling scramble to collect all Artifacts across the continent, players have made significant progress, approaching about half of their total. Fortunately, there’s still more work to be done. By focusing on the Hegemony Civic, Explorers can uncover Artifacts buried since the Antiquity Age. To keep moving forward, they should hold their Explorers in place and start working towards the Civics necessary to unlock Hegemony within the Modern Age Civic Tree (Social Question, Political Theory, and Nationalism).

After wrapping up my Hegemony lessons, I should dispatch one of my Explorers back to a museum or university on the second continent and dig up all the fresh Artifacts that surface. Following that, I’ll need to round up all my Explorers and get them back over to the first continent to repeat the process until there are no Artifacts left on the map. If everything goes smoothly, I should end up with at least 15 of those Artifacts in my possession by then.

It might be feasible for Explorers to investigate at Museums and Universities on different continents concurrently, but it would be more advantageous to approach tasks sequentially. Breaking down the mission into four manageable sections will significantly enhance the likelihood of gathering the 15 Artifacts required for a Civ 7 Culture Victory. Time isn’t a limiting factor in this case, so investing more time to set up for success is undeniably the most effective approach.

If players find it challenging to gather enough Artifacts using this sequential method, they might want to consider alternative strategies. One effective approach is to initiate the campaign during either the Antiquity or Exploration era and focus on eradicating rival civilizations until only one remains (preferably with a solitary settlement). This tactic can significantly boost a player’s chances of acquiring Artifacts first, as the remaining civilization would lack the necessary resources to contend effectively.
