In Heroes of Hammerwatch 2, the Dark Citadel serves as the primary goal for players. While its entrance lies at the beginning of every run, accessing it won’t be granted until well into the game, thanks to the formidable strength of the creatures within. This delay in entry is beneficial, given the power of the monsters residing therein.
For those who enjoy Action Role-Playing Games (ARPGs), here’s a familiar routine: Before venturing into the Dark Citadel, you’ll need to boost your character’s level and gather essential equipment. Also, be aware that the citadel’s main gate is sealed. Your task is to discover a method to unlock it first. Here’s how to accomplish just that.
How to Get to the Dark Citadel in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2
As a new player, you’ll find the ominous Dark Citadel right from the get-go, but don’t be fooled, you can’t access it yet. Instead, venture through the dense Forest to discover the hidden path that will eventually lead you to enter the citadel for the first time. If you’re new to this game, take a detour and explore further into the woods to find an alternate route.
Players will progress to the Dark Citadel following the task of locating and saving the Architect, a non-player character who may pop up at random during your adventures. Keep an eye out for his appearance as you delve into the crypt – expect to find him in a spacious chamber teeming with monsters, complete with obelisks that shoot shards of ice. Make sure to thoroughly search every room once you enter the crypt, and be prepared for combat.
Peek at the Layered Map to discover handy treasure chests, items, and resources during your adventure. Additionally, you can spot Non-Player Characters (NPCs) from this vantage point.
Opening Shortcuts
In your progression, you’ll find that achieving specific objectives will eventually grant you access to quicker routes for subsequent levels from earlier stages of your adventure. For instance, when you successfully defeat the Totem boss within the Dark Caves, the barricade in the Goblin Village on Forest Level 2 will be removed, providing a direct pathway straight to Forest Level 3 and the Temple.
In a similar vein, the main gate of the Dark Fortress functions as a quick passage. Upon encountering the Architect, you’ll no longer need to battle your way across the remainder of the map. More crucially, after striking a deal with the Architect using Gold and resources, you’ll gain the ability to customize your adventures within the Dark Fortress. Gaining access to the Dark Fortress via its main gate also activates the Sorcerer character in “Heroes of Hammerwatch 2”.
What is the Dark Citadel?
Essentially, this location serves as a final challenge zone, similar to other role-playing games, brimming with formidable beasts and high-value rewards. You can gain access to it in two ways: by navigating through the forest path that leads to the Dungeon or by opening the main gate of the citadel once it’s been unlocked.
At the onset of each game, it’s worth noting that the Architect has the ability to alter the condition of the Dark Citadel. Among your choices will be several options:
- Far Sight – The entire map is revealed.
- Toppled Towers – All towers are destroyed.
- Weak Defenses – Levels have fewer enemies.
- Safe Corridors – All traps in corridors are disabled.
- Poor Training – Fewer elites will spawn in levels.
- Righteous Flames – You have a higher chance of finding a Pyre.
Keep in mind that when you turn on multiple modifications, their prices tend to rise significantly. It’s advisable to avoid excessive use and select just one or two that suit your needs most effectively.
