As a dedicated gamer, I’d say that Builders in Civilization 6 are a game-changer! They’re like the backbone of my civilization, playing a pivotal role in shaping my cities and enhancing the surrounding territories. These versatile units are an absolute must-have for any player aiming for growth and prosperity. With their diverse skillset, Builders can construct tile improvements, gather resources, and handle tasks within my city, all contributing to the wellbeing of my civilization.
As a novice player in the Civilization series, you might find the Builder unit a bit perplexing due to its essential role and the prerequisites involved in using it effectively. In simpler terms, I had to wrap my head around various conditions before I could successfully deploy this valuable unit.
Mastering every type of unit is essential for victory in Civilization 6, regardless of your chosen strategy. In terms of earning resources, Builders are indispensable units for expansion and growth.
How To Use Builders
To hire Builders, navigate to one of your owned major cities and look for the option ‘Buy an Item with Gold’ located beneath. In this section, you have the ability to purchase various units, among which are the Builders.
After completing the necessary maneuvers, the unit will appear within the city. The type of Builder may vary based on the Leader and Nationality of the player, but generally, each Builder unit can move two times per turn and has three chances to construct. Once these opportunities are exhausted, the unit will be dismissed and withdrawn.
Now, here are the requirements for using a Builder unit:
- Builders can only build on tiles that feature an icon for a suggested improvement, like farming, mining, etc.
- The aforementioned tile must be already owned by the player. Builders cannot work on unowned tiles.
- Builders can also work on tiles with any form of natural obstacles like forests or savannas to remove them and make the tile flat. These tiles must be owned too.
- A Builder unit cannot move 2 tiles and build in a single turn. If a Builder unit is moved one tile in a turn, however, they will be able to build/remove anything within that turn if they end up on the tile that is eligible for improvement.
- Before attempting to build something, the player must acquire knowledge of it. Mining facilities, for example, cannot be built without completing Mining research.
The Role Of Builders
As a gamer, I find myself in charge of a thriving civilization, and the Builders are my hardworking crew responsible for constructing our infrastructure. They come equipped with a variety of skills that help boost the efficiency of my cities, making them more prosperous and productive.
Builders have a total of 3 charges for building, and this can be used on various things:
- Constructing Tile Improvements for 1 charge.
- Repairing Tile Improvements does not consume any charges.
- Removing Tile Improvements also does not consume any charges.
- Harvesting Resources requires 1 charge and provides a one-time yield. This is applicable only to Bonus Resources.
- Removing Features such as Forests, Rainforests, or Marshes requires 1 charge and provides a one-time yield.
- Planting Woods requires 1 charge and becomes available with the Conservation technology.
- Cleaning Nuclear Fallout requires 1 charge.
Players must relocate their builder unit to the specific tile they wish to develop. If that tile is suitable for construction, several building choices will be available for them to select.
Tile Improvements
In the game Civilization 6, players often utilize the majority of their Builder’s charges to boost tile features, which can be done on various territories belonging to their civilization. Notable upgrades that Builders can create include farms, mines, plantations, and many more beneficial additions.
These enhancements are undeniably valuable to construct since they will bestow numerous advantages upon the player’s civilization, including more food, output, income in gold, and vital strategic resources. Each of these aspects plays a crucial role in fostering and progressing the player’s civilization.
Repairing Pillaged Improvements
At the beginning of the game, players might notice that their progress is being swiftly damaged by marauding Barbarians. Additionally, improvements can be ruined by natural catastrophes and rival civilizations. Fortunately, Builders are proficient at rebuilding damaged structures, restoring them to their original operational condition.
It’s worth mentioning that Builders are exclusively capable of mending tile enhancements, not districts or their structures. To restore a plundered improvement, players merely have to position their Builder unit on the affected tile and opt for the “Repair” option.
Resource Harvesting & Feature Removal
Instead of focusing on enhancing tiles with improvements, Builders can also opt for Resource Gathering and Removing Features. Gathering resources enables Builders to clear Bonus Resources from a tile, granting an immediate, one-time yield boost to the city whose tiles these features are situated on.
As a dedicated gamer, I often find myself tweaking my gameboard by eliminating certain elements like Forests, Rainforests, or Marshes. Doing this not only gives me an instant boost but also requires using a Builder and choosing the Remove Feature or Harvest Resources option. It’s important to remember that this action costs one build charge from my reserve.
Over the long haul, this approach may offer less frequent returns to the city, but it excels at completing projects, constructing buildings, and developing districts promptly.
How To Increase Build Charges
In the game Civilization 6, initial builder actions are limited to three builds, yet there are various methods to boost this number.
- Qin Shi Huang’s leader ability grants an additional charge to all Builders.
- Governor Liang, known as The Surveyor, bestows an extra charge to new Builders trained in the city where she is assigned as governor.
- The Pyramids wonder grants all Builders an additional charge.
- The Serfdom and Public Works policy cards provide two extra charges to newly created Builders.
