Unlock the Secrets of Fujibayashi Nagato: The Next AC Mirage?

This article contains spoilers for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

In recent years, the Assassin’s Creed series has been following a formula for action RPG games. However, Ubisoft decided to return the series to its roots with the 2024 release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This game delved deeper into the story of one of the assassins from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, offering players a glimpse into his early days within the Brotherhood, making for an exciting and engaging adventure. Now, with the debut of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the series has reverted to an RPG structure once more. Yet, its narrative paves the way for a future game similar to Mirage.

From a fan’s perspective, it’s yet uncertain if Ubisoft will deliver another game akin to ‘Assassin’s Creed Mirage’, but should they do so, the character Fujibayashi Nagato from ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ would make an exceptional protagonist. Not only did he serve as the father and instructor of our hero Naoe, but he was also a pivotal figure within the Assassin Brotherhood itself. While his story was only hinted at in ‘Shadows’, it’s high time we delve deeper into his past.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Could Have a Fantastic Prequel Adventure

Naoe’s Father Has So Much Story Left to Tell

In the early stages of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”, Players encounter Fujibayashi Nagato. Unfortunately, their interaction with him is brief as he falls victim to members of the Shinbakufu, who are trying to seize a mysterious artifact. This tragic event motivates Naoe to pursue and eliminate these culprits, seeking both revenge for Nagato’s death and recovery of the artifact. Throughout their journey, players uncover fragments of Nagato’s life, but his story remains largely enveloped in mystery.

As a gamer, I can imagine how fascinating it would be to delve deeper into the life of Nagato, a historical figure known for his ties with the Kakushiba Ikki, precursors to the Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins. In the game, we learn that he was initially focused on shielding Naoe from the brutalities of war, but circumstances compelled him to teach her the art of the hidden blade to ensure her survival against Oda Nobunga’s onslaught.

However, the game only provides brief glimpses into Nagato’s life and personality. But imagine if we could explore his past more thoroughly through a game like Mirage? That would offer an immersive experience, allowing us to uncover the hidden facets of this enigmatic character and understand his motivations better.

An Assassin’s Creed Mirage-like Game Would Fit In Nicely

In Nagato’s life, Naoe considers him not only a significant figure but also a powerful entity within the Brotherhood. His background suggests a leader who dedicated a substantial portion of his existence to shielding the territories from Oda Nobunga and preserving the Imperial Regalia from his control. Moreover, he demonstrated exceptional combat skills and gained widespread recognition for his exploits. Such a tale cries out for exploration, and Ubisoft offers an ideal method to do so.

In simpler terms, “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” provided a more compact narrative for Basim’s story from “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla”. A similar approach could be used to develop Nagato’s story in another experience, offering players a glimpse into the early days of the Japanese Brotherhood. This could result in an engaging plot and further exploration of Assassin’s Creed’s Japan. It was a long-awaited arrival for the franchise in this location, and now that it’s here, it seems fitting to prolong its stay.

Currently, “Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe” appears to be the upcoming main series installment. Additionally, more games are planned following this one. However, with so many titles in development, it might be worthwhile for Ubisoft to introduce another game. If possible, expanding Nagato’s story could offer an exciting addition for fans of this new journey.
