Fundamentally, the social deduction game “Among Us” revolves around hardworking teammates finishing their tasks while stealthy impostors eliminate them. What makes “Among Us” thrilling for players is the option to personalize their in-game character, commonly referred to as a “bean”, using an assortment of decorative items such as hats, gloves, visors, and so forth. In line with this feature, the developers of “Among Us” have confirmed that the upcoming PC release, “Among Us 3D”, will also allow for character customization, as revealed during a press conference announcing its debut.
At the recent gathering, where Game Rant was present, Bryan Gardiner (lead producer at Schell Games), Ryan Hall (project director), and Adam Kuta (assistant product marketing manager) unveiled an exciting update: Among Us 3D will introduce a fresh currency called Stardust. Similar to the Stars currency in the existing 2D version of Among Us, Stardust will enable players to acquire an array of customization items, allowing them to personalize their characters and make their “crewmates” uniquely their own.
Among Us 3D Will Feature Stardust Currency For Purchasing Cosmetics Only
In simple terms, “Among Us 3D” is an upcoming three-dimensional version of the popular game that will be available on PC via Steam in 2025. The 3D graphics were initially introduced in “Among Us VR,” which was released for headsets like PICO 4 and Meta Quest, Meta Quest 2 in 2022. After the PC release of “Among Us 3D,” the VR version will be renamed “Among Us 3D” across all platforms to signify that the game’s 3D version is compatible on multiple platforms. Additionally, a new in-game currency called “Stardust” will become available exclusively for the 3D version at a later date.
Players can utilize Stardust to buy exclusive in-game cosmetic items, as confirmed by Ryan Hall. This streamlines the process for releasing new content overall, according to Hall and Gardiner. By categorizing cosmetics under Stardust purchases, the development team can devote more time towards creating new game modes, customizations, and potentially, new roles.
However, it’s important to note that other new content such as new game modes and roles won’t be part of the Stardust system, and are expected to be provided for free to players. There is a possibility that cosmetics produced in collaboration with other media outlets may require Stardust to acquire. The game Among Us has a rich history of partnering with various series like Ace Attorney, League of Legends, and many more.
3D’s Cosmetics Will Be A Mix Of New Releases And Returning Favorites
Hall, Gardiner, and Kuta, being enthusiastic fans of the game “Among Us,” have affirmed that the in-game cosmetics purchasable with Stardust will feature a blend of fresh additions and well-loved reprises from the 2D version of the game. The team hasn’t specified which cosmetics will make a comeback, but they suggested that some of the returning items will be highly anticipated by players, as hinted by Gardiner.
As a gamer, I’m excited to let you know that we’re going to keep rolling out fresh and classic cosmetics in 3D! It’s our dream to see you transform into “the bean” and show off your creative flair by designing unique outfits. We can hardly wait to witness the incredible designs players like us will create!
At present, the Star currency within the 2D adaptation of Among Us serves as the means to acquire “Cosmicubes,” which represent various costumes for players. Additionally, larger bundles containing assorted items, like a pet bundle, can also be bought. However, Stars are exclusively obtained by spending real money and cannot be earned through in-game tasks or achievements. Since its introduction, bundles of Stars have been available for purchase starting from $1.99 USD. As yet, it’s uncertain whether Stardust will follow the same system as Stars, but it is expected to work similarly. It’s important to note that Stars and Stardust are distinct currencies and cannot be exchanged one for the other.
The launch date for Stardust currency is yet to be disclosed, so stay tuned for future updates. However, in the interim, players have a chance to test out the demo of Among Us 3D, which will be available free of charge during the Steam NEXT Fest event starting February 24th.
