Summary
- Level up the Shaping Slab for easier Nether runs.
- Utilize the Tome of Want to focus loot preferences.
- Use enhancements and boons strategically for a successful Nether run.
Just like other DLC and Season/Episode expansions for Destiny 2, Episode Heresy has rolled out a brand new activity that Guardians can dive into. The Nether is the latest entrant in this series. By combining some of the most engaging aspects from past seasonal activities, it offers an experience that’s both uniquely challenging and tailored to all types of players – whether they prefer teaming up or going solo for their adventures.
This collection of suggestions is designed to assist gamers in conquering the daunting Nether, one of Bungie’s toughest challenges as of late. Given that it lacks health regeneration, escalating enemy toughness, and limited respawn opportunities, it’s advisable to study the Nether thoroughly before tackling its more challenging levels.
1. Level Up The Shaping Slab
The Rewards Are Worth It

In Destiny 2, the Shaping Slab is the latest merchant you’ll encounter. It serves as the central hub for players seeking episodic upgrades, prizes, and quest progression. Nestled within Eris Morn’s residence in The Last City on Earth, this device enables players to boost their reputation with it, earning episodic equipment and other rewards at each level achieved. Additionally, the Shaping Slab lets you handle your enhancements, a topic that is discussed further in a subsequent passage.
Enhancing this vendor is crucial as it grants an additional enhancement slot in the Nether every two player levels, thus simplifying subsequent runs. Additionally, this vendor serves as the means to acquire the Tome of Want, a key component in the loot sequence for the current episode.
2. Use The Tome Of Want
Focus The Most Desirable Loot

In Episode Heresy, the Tome of Want serves as a streamlined version of the crafting system from Episode Revenant. Rather than juggling multiple currencies, visiting the brewing station frequently, and activating various tonics, this new system offers two straightforward options for players: select the type of equipment desired and pick the specific item. The Tome of Want also grants enduring bonuses to the artifact abilities accessible in this episode, which can be unlocked through progress on the Shaping Slab.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t guarantee that this item will grant me the ultimate god roll, but it definitely guarantees that I’ll be getting the kind of gear I’m after whenever I venture into the nether. This increased chance significantly boosts my likelihood of finding the elusive perk combination I’ve been chasing!
3. Utilize Enhancements
Smalls Boosts Add Up

Improvements represent a fresh feature that grants a continuous advantage whenever the player ventures into the Nether. To activate these improvements, players need to acquire a novel type of currency and, with a restricted number of available spaces, certain enhancements demand a specific number of these slots. These slots can be expanded by upgrading the Shaping Slab, making it crucial to prioritize maximizing the number of slots for optimal use of this system.
These boosts grant players potent skills like knowing the contents of a chest prior to opening it and acquiring a protective shield when collecting a healing artifact. Each of these perks either simplifies or optimizes a Nether expedition, minimizing the amount of resources a player unintentionally discards on unwanted loot.
4. Select Boons That Work Together
Roguelite Build Crafting
In simpler terms, Boons represent a fresh addition to the game’s mechanics in the Nether realm and boost the player directly. You can discover these Boons by vanquishing foes, opening treasure chests, or concluding encounters within the Nether. These Boons persist until the end of each run.
Minor Boons offer minor stat increases, such as reduced damage taken from bosses or decreased cooldown times for abilities. On the other hand, Major Boons grant more potent advantages, like causing a Solar energy wave when sliding or accumulating Bolt Charge stacks as you sprint.
Instead of going for the most eye-catching bonuses, it’s more beneficial in the Underworld run if the player selects bonuses that complement their character build. For instance, selecting Bolt Charge bonuses would be advantageous when using an Arc-focused playstyle. A finely tuned loadout is crucial for tackling challenging content, and boons provide an additional layer of customization to this particular activity, enhancing the overall experience.
5. Look Out For Health Orbs
Literal Life Savers

In Destiny 2, The Nether is unique because it doesn’t automatically regenerate player health. Instead, player health is significantly boosted, making it a valuable asset due to the limited revive tokens a team can use. To help players stay alive, healing orbs frequently appear from slain enemies and destructible containers scattered throughout the arenas.
Paying attention to these is crucial since they can significantly impact outcomes, potentially deciding between victory and defeat during critical moments. It’s a bitter experience when, after using the last revive token, one must watch the rest of the team play instead of participating, especially if this outcome could have been prevented. Although less critical in lower-level competitions, mastering Nether runs demands constant vigilance for these life-preserving orbs.
6. Look For Secrets
They Lurk Everywhere And Provide Loot

Secrets lurk in every nook of the revamped Dreadnaught, taking on different shapes. One such secret, present across all areas (though not always appearing in each playthrough), is Toland, the Fragmented. During missions within the Nether, players might stumble upon a tiny glowing sphere that moves about and vanishes upon being approached closely. By tracking this orb around the battlefield, eventually it will guide you to a secret treasure chest that would otherwise go unnoticed.
A hidden treasure that’s not hard to locate is some bowls scattered around, ready for interaction. If a player interacts with all three in the vicinity, a mini-boss will appear. Defeating this boss will cause another secret chest to materialize, offering loot that would have otherwise been overlooked. Keep in mind there are many more secrets waiting to be discovered, so don’t forget to explore thoroughly!
7. Collect Everything
Become A Loot Goblin
As a devoted Destiny player, I can’t help but admit that we have a penchant for hoarding items, often stashing away what seems like useless junk. Yet, in the eerie realm of the Nether, this habit is something to be proud of. The Dreadnaught, brimming with chests, raw materials, breakable pots, and hidden secrets, offers valuable currencies and loot at every turn. With the help of a Wombo Detector mod for the ghost, I can easily spot these hidden treasures and resources.
This addition may not reveal all hidden details, but it will subtly guide players towards accessible treasures and nudge them towards further discoveries. Gathering resources streamlines the gameplay cycle in this episode, and the potential rewards are simply unprecedented.
8. Take It Slow
There Is No Need To Rush

In the Nether, there’s no set time limit. While zipping through quickly might seem thrilling, a good chunk of free loot could be overlooked. Delving into exploration is crucial as it uncovers hidden treasures, chests, materials, and puzzles. There’s no need to dash through everything at top speed. On the contrary, rushing will only make you lag behind in terms of loot, making subsequent runs more challenging, and in the long run, diminishing the enjoyment you should get from this activity.
Slowing down your pace can help reduce the intimidating sensation of health regeneration shortage. If a battle seems critical, consider retreating. Should there be treasure chests en route to the next action, pause and search them. This deliberate exploration and paced gameplay will transform this activity into a distinct experience rather than just another repetitive episode.
