On top of that, our game developers gave us a glimpse of the legendary Kubfu during certain events. If you’re looking to catch yourself an Urshifu (in either Single or Rapid Strike Style), the first step is to snag a Kubfu!

Beginning on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 10 AM local time, you will be able to obtain Urshifu Single Strike Style and Urshifu Rapid Strike Style in Pokemon GO, however, there is no direct method for catching them. Instead, if you manage to catch a Kubfu within the game, it can then be evolved into either a Single Strike Style or Rapid Strike Style Urshifu. It’s worth noting that Kubfu can only be encountered in Pokemon GO through a single means. This guide offers insights on how to capture Kubfu and its evolutions (Urshifu, Single/Rapid Strike Style), as well as the possibility of encountering Shiny Kubfu within the game.

Pokemon GO: Get Kubfu By Completing Research Tasks

During special events like the 2025 Final Strike: GO Battle Week, developers offer Kubfu as a reward for specific tasks related to Pokemon GO research. Players can earn Kubfu by completing certain Special Research quests, such as the Might and Mastery Special Research or the Fuzzy Fighter Special Research. Notably, the Kubfus obtained during this event can be Dynamaxed.

Pokemon GO: How To Get Urshifu (Single Strike Style/Rapid Strike Style)

After acquiring a Kubfu, you have the option to develop it into either the Urshifu Single Strike Style or the Urshifu Rapid Strike Style. Both evolutions necessitate the same amount of Kubfu candies, but there are unique conditions for each transformation. You can gather the necessary Kubfu Candies by finishing tasks in the Might and Mastery Special Research or the Fuzzy Fighter Special Research.

  • 200 Kubfu Candies
  • Win 30 Dark-type Raids or Max Battles with Kubfu as the Buddy Pokemon

Evolve Kubfu into Urshifu (Rapid Strike Style)

  • 200 Kubfu Candies
  • Win 30 Water-type Raids or Max Battles with Kubfu as the Buddy Pokemon

In simpler terms, it’s not essential for Kubfu to emerge victorious in these Raids or Max Battles while serving as your counterpart. Instead, just ensure that Kubfu remains your Buddy Pokemon throughout your successful completion of the Raids or Max Battles.

Pokemon GO: Can Kubfu Be Shiny

At the moment, you can’t obtain a Shiny Kubfu within Pokemon GO. This also means that Shiny Urshifu (Single Strike Style/Rapid Strike Style) isn’t accessible yet either. Unfortunately, we don’t know when Shiny Kubfu might appear in the game for players to catch.
