Ubisoft, a French publisher along with its affiliated development studios, is known for creating some of the most critically and financially successful video games in history. Initially gaining international recognition through the groundbreaking platform game Rayman, the company has continued to thrive with impactful series such as Assassin’s Creed and numerous Tom Clancy titles.
Regardless of certain hardware restrictions, the Nintendo Switch has successfully hosted versions of numerous renowned Ubisoft games and even launched several hit exclusive titles. Here are some standout games from this collection, arranged according to a blend of their general excellence on Nintendo’s versatile console and the enthusiasm they’ve sparked among players.
10. Trials Rising
Over-The-Top Motorbike Racing Action
In a Nintendo console for the first time in the highly anticipated series, Trials Rising moves the action globally to challenge aspiring motorcycle racers and put physics to the test. With numerous real-world landmarks and imaginative tracks, it’s one of the most entertaining bike racing games ever created.
In this game, you have the freedom to personalize both your clothing and vehicles extensively, with a vast selection of more than 10,000 unique items to choose from. These can be bought using in-game credits. Additionally, the track-building aspect is impressive, offering over 8,000 items for players to create their ideal Trials courses.
9. Immortals Fenyx Rising
Battle Mythological Beasts And Save The Greek Gods
In many ways, Immortals Fenyx Rising mirrors The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, yet it maintains a unique identity. Set in an open world influenced by Greek mythology, players embody Fenyx, the main character, on a quest to vanquish Typhon and rejuvenate the powers of the Greek deities.
On the Island of Gold, you’ll find seven unique areas ripe for discovery, each teeming with legendary beasts such as cyclops that need to be vanquished. Fenyx is equipped to journey across this land through climbing, riding various creatures, and even soaring through the skies thanks to Daedalus’ Wings, gaining divine abilities along the way to employ in battle, gradually becoming god-like.
8. Beyond Good & Evil – 20th Anniversary Edition
Override Tag NameA Two-Decade-Old Classic
As we step into the shoes of journalist Jade once more, we find ourselves delving into the remastered version of “Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition”. This game, initially released in 2003, is an action-adventure title. Using her martial arts prowess and keen photographic eye, Jade’s mission is to expose a dark alien conspiracy for the resistance.
Back in the day, there was some heat about this game when it first came out, but now it’s considered a timeless masterpiece by gamers far and wide. The 20th anniversary remaster isn’t just a facelift for today’s tastes; it’s got fresh additions that make it even more irresistible. We’re talking exclusive cosmetic goodies, a speedrun mode to test your mettle, and a side quest tying back to the prequel – making this remaster a must-have for fans like me.
7. Valiant Hearts: The Great War
A Story Of Survival Amidst Ongoing Conflict
Initially launched to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War One, Valiant Hearts: The Great War eventually became available on Nintendo Switch several years afterwards. Instead of focusing on combat scenes on the battlefield, this game delves into human tales from both sides during war periods. The four playable characters include soldiers hailing from France, Germany, and the USA, along with a Belgian nurse.
Many find it incredibly valuable for learning about history as its creators meticulously delve into firsthand accounts to ensure authenticity. The game features sections with elements of stealth and conflict, but largely, players advance by using the dog Walt to solve puzzles in well-known settings across the Western Front.
6. South Park: The Stick of Truth
Fantasy Tie-In Of The Hit TV Show
The game “South Park: The Stick of Truth” is an engaging role-playing adventure, nestled within the universe of the well-known animated TV series “South Park.” In this game, you assume the role of a new resident in town, interacting with familiar characters from South Park. The storyline revolves around a fantasy war, reminiscent of Dungeons and Dragons, where you’ll encounter mystical beings such as wizards and elves.
In this game, you’ll gather well-known characters to form your playable team, each belonging to one of four distinct classes, each with unique advantages and disadvantages. You’ll take turns battling a variety of foes, ranging from gnomes to aliens to hippies. The humor reminiscent of South Park, known for its boundary-pushing style, is abundantly present, earning praise from critics as a standout feature.
5. Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection
Become A Pirate And An Assassin Hunter
For enthusiasts of the game Assassin’s Creed, everyone has a preferred title, and unfortunately, several Switch adaptations have been marred by performance problems. The Ezio Collection is indeed recommended, but the Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection seems to be more popular among fans, as it offers two beloved installments in the series, namely Black Flag and Rogue, along with all their additional content.
Black Flag is the fourth main game in the series, transporting players to a pirate ship sailing across the Caribbean, participating in renowned sea battles. On the other hand, Rogue has gamers assuming the role of an assassin hunter, betraying their own brotherhood. Both are outstanding installments in the ongoing tale and can be played conveniently in handheld mode without any issues on the Nintendo Switch.
4. Child of Light: Ultimate Edition
Carefully Crafted Story With Beautifully Stylized Graphics
Among the eye-catching games produced by Ubisoft, Child of Light: Ultimate Edition stands out, offering not just the main game but also additional features such as an extra mission and a new Healing Skill. In this game, you play as Aurora who embarks on a journey to rescue her unwell father by reviving light in the mysterious world of Lemuria. This realm is under Umbra’s control, The Queen of Night, who has taken away the sun, moon, and stars.
The game features battles that take turns, and as Aurora embarks on her journeys, various intriguing characters join her, including a mouse archer and a helpful firefly guide. Critics have showered praise upon every aspect of the game, from its captivating storyline and beautiful music to its visually stunning graphics and engaging gameplay.
3. Rayman Legends Definitive Edition
Tons Of Rayman Content In One Tidy Package
In a superior version designed for the Nintendo Switch, the Rayman Legends Definitive Edition, serves as the fifth installment of the esteemed platform game series. As Rayman and his companions stroll through the magical forest, they are mysteriously drawn into paintings, leading them to navigate through each one to uncover hidden truths. Throughout their journey, they confront various adversaries.
As a gamer, I was blown away by the massive amount of content this game offered – over 100 diverse maps that kept me engaged, with many familiar ones from Rayman Origins thrown into the mix. The variety didn’t stop there; you can control multiple playable characters, each with their own unique set of skills. Plus, up to four of us could team up in local co-op mode, not just during regular levels but also in the thrilling Kung Foot minigame.
2. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
Combining Tactical Battles With Super Mario
Based upon the triumph of “Kingdom Battle”, “Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope” is an exclusive tactics game for the Nintendo Switch. Enhancing its outstanding predecessor, the battle maps now offer a more fluid movement system instead of the standard grid-based one commonly found in this genre.
In the initial version of the game, nine characters are playable, among them is Bowser. These characters embark on journeys to various planets in an attempt to save Sparks and acquire distinct abilities associated with each. A key difference from the previous game is that Mario can be replaced if needed. Furthermore, the additional content called “Rayman in the Phantom Shadow” DLC introduces a separate campaign where Rayman takes center stage as a playable character, joining forces once more with the Rabbids.
1. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
A 2.5D Metroidvania
Drawing heavily from Persian folklore, Prince of Persia: The Stolen Crown incorporates aspects of Metroidvania-style games, featuring numerous shortcuts, hidden chambers, and intricate puzzles to overcome. The game unfolds in a side-scrolling perspective, boasting striking 2.5D visuals as the hero, Sargon, endeavors to save the abducted prince atop Mount Qaf.
Enjoyment comes from the thrill of exploration and battle, as well as the somewhat familiar techniques for manipulating time and space, reminiscent of past Prince of Persia games. Despite receiving positive feedback from critics and players, and several major awards, Ubisoft’s sales were low, leading to the dissolution of the development team.
