In the game Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players get a variety of powerful melee options for both Yasuke and Naoe. Each option boasts unique strengths, special skills, and capabilities, as well as individual advancement paths and engravings. The Long Katana, among Yasuke’s weapons, is the most versatile, reflecting the classic samurai ethos. It excels both in offense and defense. Quick slashes from the Katana can immobilize and kill single targets, while unexpected attacks when sheathed take foes by surprise.
In the game, characters like Yasuke can acquire multiple potent Legendary Long Katanas. By unlocking these Legendary katanas, you can access strong engravings that can be applied to Epic Katanas too. Here, we’ve listed the top Long Katana weapons in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, emphasizing their unique advantages and optimal stat distributions within their respective categories.
In this game, we’ve only included the standard Long Katana weapons in our list. This doesn’t include any special variants of the Katana, which may have enhanced abilities and can be bought from the Helix Store or unlocked through the Animus Shadows Projects Battle Pass. It is worth noting that all Yasuke Katanas mentioned here are fully upgraded to their maximum level 60 with optimal stats.
6. Epic Long Katana with Highlighted Base Stats
Engraving: Random Melee Engraving
- Weapon DPS: 4,626
- Posture DPS: 19,272
- Ability Damage: 24,889
In the game “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” top-tier Epic equipment isn’t necessarily weaker than Legendary weapons and might even be a superior choice in certain situations. Occasionally, scarce Epic gear boasts enhanced base stats, such as Weapon Damage Per Second (DPS), Posture DPS, or Ability Damage. Gamers should carefully inspect their equipment before disposing of it or breaking it down, as some Epic weapons with emphasized base stats can provide significant advantages in raw numbers for players who are prepared to maximize specific values. Furthermore, some Epic Long Katanas may feature uncommon Afflictions like Daze.
For instance, the Exceptional Strong Katana of Productivity, wielded by Yasuke, boasts the highest Posture Damage Per Second (19,272) in the entire game, surpassing any Legendary Katana’s capabilities (18,282). Another Epic Katana, the Venomous Simple Katana, offers increased Ability Damage (24,889), outperforming Legendary weapons (24,376) as well, albeit slightly. However, Epic Long Katanas with boosted base stats can be advantageous for players, particularly for Yasuke-specific builds that thrive without applying Legendary engravings, offering significant benefits.
5. Turquoise Zephyr
Engraving: Successful Parries Push Nearby Enemies Back
- Weapon DPS: 4,363
- Posture DPS: 15,789
- Ability Damage: 21,052
- Adrenaline Gain: +42%
The Turquoise Zephyr is a stunningly unique, legendary long katana tailored for Yasuke. It’s an exciting weapon, especially when wielded skillfully. Its intricate engravings enable Yasuke to shove back all surrounding enemies upon parry, disorienting them and creating a clear battlefield area. This feature proves handy in numerous intense combat situations. Furthermore, the Turquoise Zephyr boasts one of the highest Adrenaline Gain rates among its class, empowering players to accumulate Adrenaline faster and unleash potent abilities more frequently.
In the game AC Shadows, you can get your hands on the Turquoise Zephyr fairly quickly since it’s a Long Katana that is concealed within a legendary chest under a bridge in the Eagle’s Nest region, located in Yamashiro.
4. Claw of the Tides
Engraving: Instantly Charge Posture Attacks on Hit with a Posture Attack
- Weapon DPS: 3,740
- Posture DPS: 18,282
- Ability Damage: 24,376
- Adrenaline Gain: +36%
In the game “AC Shadows”, The Claw of the Tides stands out as the optimal raw damage Long Katana. This weapon enables players to execute prolonged sequences of charged Posture attacks, annihilating defenses, disrupting even formidable opponents, and terminating combats swiftly. Its unique engraving instantly charges subsequent Posture attacks following a successful initial strike, resulting in an explosive barrage of powerful blows during battle.
In the game Assassin’s Creed Shadows, benefits from upgrading engravings can significantly increase the power of Posture attacks, resulting in potent combinations of these weapon enhancements. Furthermore, the Claw of the Tides, with its powerful engraving, also boasts a high Ability Damage value, amplifying every Long Katana ability within Yasuke’s collection.
In the Sotomo Gate region, specifically within the Uchinakao Burrows area to the east, lies a concealed Legendary chest that contains the Claw of the Tides. Players can discover it in Wakasa.
3. Whisper of Muramasa
Engraving: Riposte Makes Enemies Vulnerable
- Weapon DPS: 4,363
- Posture DPS: 18,282
- Ability Damage: 21,052
- Adrenaline Gain: +36%
In the game AC Shadows, The Whisper of Muramasa is one of the top candidates for the most potent Long Katana in terms of raw damage. Its Weapon and Posture DPS stats are quite impressive, but what truly sets it apart is its engraving that benefits players who have mastered the Riposte skill for Yasuke in the Long Katana skill tree. To perform a Riposte (not a parry), players must release the block button immediately following a successful block. This move not only deals more damage and has a higher critical chance, but it also restores 5% of Yasuke’s health. When using The Whisper of Muramasa, each Riposte will leave enemies vulnerable, enabling players to swiftly finish them off with a charged Posture attack.
In the captivating world of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, I found myself on a relentless pursuit: the Legendary Long Katana Whisper of Muramasa. This elusive blade wasn’t handed out casually; instead, it was a token of triumph, bestowed upon those who dared to conquer the Kurai Eikyou quest board in its entirety. The task was daunting, requiring me to eliminate no less than five agent targets scattered across the mystical land of Japan. It wasn’t easy, but the thrill of the chase and the promise of wielding such a legendary weapon made every challenge worthwhile.
2. Lethal Lotus Petal
Engraving: 50% Chance to Kill Enemies Below Two Health Segments with Poison
- Weapon DPS: 4,570
- Posture DPS: 14,958
- Ability Damage: 19,944
- Poison Buildup: 18%
In the game, long katanas are the ideal weapon for Yasuke’s builds focusing on afflictions such as poison and bleed, especially in the “AC Shadows” area where these afflictions are strongest and enemies rarely have resistance to status effects. This makes the Lethal Lotus Petal one of the most lethal melee weapons for Yasuke due to its potent poison buildup and an engraving that offers a 50% chance to kill an enemy with only two health segments remaining when affected by poison.
With a bit more investment in poison, players can effortlessly deal massive amounts of poison damage, making nearly every enemy vulnerable to poison within just three attacks on average. After that, it’s simply a matter of waiting for the enemies to either expire instantly or shortly after being poisoned. It’s hardly chivalrous, but given its effectiveness, it’s hard to ignore. The Lethal Lotus Petal in ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ can be found in a chest within Miyanoue Fort in Harima, once all the Samurai Daisho in the castle have been defeated.
1. Crimson’s Edge
Engraving: Bleed Kills Enemies Below Two Health Segments
- Weapon DPS: 4,155
- Posture DPS: 15,789
- Ability Damage: 21,052
- Bleed Buildup: 18%
In essence, The Crimson’s Edge serves as a more potent variation of the Lethal Lotus Petal and is undeniably the top Long Katana for Yasuke in “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”. By exchanging Poison for Bleed, players discover it more challenging to amplify damage values via other equipment since Bleed status effects are less common. Nevertheless, The Crimson’s Edge engraving does not come with a 50% chance to eliminate an enemy with only two health segments when afflicted with Bleed; instead, it ensures that outcome without fail.
At level 60 and on Expert mode, players wielding the Crimson’s Edge sword (with enhanced Affliction abilities) can swiftly defeat weaker opponents (having two to three health bars) with just a few attacks, inflicting Bleed for quicker victories. Tougher, higher-level enemies may need more strategic play, but the relentless Crimson’s Edge still makes combat seem effortless. Its distinctive serrated design only adds to its lethal allure.
In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, I discovered that the Crimson’s Edge isn’t just a formidable weapon—its might is mirrored in the grueling journey to claim it. This long katana is the ultimate prize for successfully completing Nobutsuna’s Students questline. Along the way, I battled some of the game’s toughest optional bosses, and had to strategically choose the right weapons for each fight. Yet, I persisted, knowing that the Crimson’s Edge would prove invaluable for my character Yasuke. The struggle was real, but boy, was it worth it!
