In contrast to many other roguelikes that offer only a single or a few characters, Warriors: Abyss stands out by featuring over one hundred warriors, hailing from both the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series. It’s likely that more characters will be introduced in the future as well.
It’s exciting to notice that Koei Tecmo/Omega Force is showing great enthusiasm for the game “Warriors: Abyss.” This comes after they recently released “Dynasty Warriors: Origins” with ongoing support plans as well. Among the various heroes players can initially experiment with in “Warriors: Abyss,” these stand out as the top ones. The rankings will be based on both their power level and ease of use.
8. Guan Yu
An Unwavering Tree Of Strength
In the world of Dynasty Warriors, Guan Yu stands out as a renowned figure. If you’ve just wrapped up playing Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you’d appreciate his immense power. Although his move set is less diverse in Warriors: Abyss, he remains a force to be reckoned with, capable of defeating any type of enemy. He’s an excellent choice for confronting bosses as well. His one potential drawback is his relatively slow pace, but his mastery over the spear and his colossal Musou attack involving a dragon make Guan Yu an ideal starting character.
7. Goemon Ishikawa
Find The Rhythm And Create Fireworks

Goemon Ishikawa is modeled after the legendary thief from Japanese folklore, and serves as the foundation for the Konami-produced “Ganbare Goemon” game series. In this adaptation, Goemon exhibits a more humorous side, carrying a large cannon on his back that can launch both cannonballs and fireworks. Similarly to Guan Yu, Goemon is slower in movement, but players can generate momentum with him for a powerful spinning attack. He’s capable of taking as much damage as he dishes out, making Goemon a resilient character to depend on.
6. Ina
That’s Not How You Use A Bow

Ina is not your typical archer from a video game, despite her resemblance to a fair maiden with a bow. Instead of firing arrows, she wields her oversized bow like a sword in close combat against enemies. However, players can still create combos to allow her to use the bow as intended, making her a character with mid-range capabilities.
Ina’s Musou skill will effectively utilize her bow, raining down a barrage of arrows across the battlefield. Although Ina may not be the most physically powerful character, her quick agility provides her an edge during combat.
5. Zhurong
A Strong Amazon With Range

Zhurong is a towering warrior resembling an Amazonian, yet unlike Guan Yu, she gives off an imposing and powerful air, but also boasts incredible speed. Her weapon of choice is a three-pronged boomerang akin to Yuffie’s in Final Fantasy 7. Similar to Ina, Zhurong operates at mid-range, employing her enlarged shuriken for both close combat and throwing attacks. However, it should be noted that while impressive in many ways, Zhurong’s Musou attack leaves something to be desired.
4. Cao Cao
The Icy Lord Who Would Unite China

In the world of “Dynasty Warriors” and Chinese history, Cao Cao stands out as a highly recognized figure. However, his character in the game “Warriors: Abyss” deviates from his real-life counterpart, for the latter didn’t possess ice powers. Instead, this fictional Cao Cao is equipped with two swords and employs ice abilities in various combo attacks as well as his Musou attack. What makes Cao Cao truly intriguing is that one of his combo moves generates a duplicate of himself to independently target enemies. Given that most “Musou” games lack couch co-op, having a self-replicating ally like this clone proves quite beneficial.
3. Oichi
Shooting Hoops From Downtown

Oichi links four hoops into one intriguing weapon. At first sight, it appears to be just two pieces when opponents start attacking, but it transforms into a series of rapid attacks once combos are initiated. This design provides her with an extended reach in close-combat situations, and her Musou attack, powered by lasers, is truly awe-inspiring.
Her slender physique allows Oichi to move swiftly, maintaining a graceful agility that keeps her nimble on her feet. However, her attacks may not be powerful enough to defeat larger adversaries such as bosses effortlessly. Despite this, her speed will prove beneficial for players, enabling them to navigate the battlefield more efficiently and avoid potential threats.
2. Hanzo Hattori
A Deadly Ninja

Hanzo Hattori, a skilled practitioner in the art of Ninjutsu, carries around two chain-linked sickles for swift and deadly attacks. Players will find that his movements are reminiscent of the wind itself. One of his most impressive moves is a late string combo that generates two additional shadowy duplicates, akin to Cao Cao’s ghosting ability but with an added edge. If you’re interested in another ninja character, consider Kunoichi, who shares similar cloning abilities, but Hanzo boasts a more balanced set of statistics overall.
1. Huang Gai
I’m On A Boat

Huang Gai is an entertaining character to observe and an extraordinary combatant in the game. His unique weapon – a canoe – sets him apart as he carries it on his back. He can use it to attack enemies or conjure waves to navigate swiftly across the battlefield. This eccentric character is one of the most flamboyant in the game, and surprisingly, he’s available from the beginning of Warriors: Abyss. Despite being relatively sluggish on foot, his boat dashes provide a bit of speed boost for Huang.
