Summary
- Players start with a dozen heroes in Warriors: Abyss, but the Hall of Bonded Souls allows them to unlock many more.
- Players can unlock powerful and fun-to-use characters like Hanbei Takenaka, Huang Zhong, and Kotaro Fuma to enhance their gameplay experience and stats.
- Characters like Masamune Date, Naotora Li, and Tadakatsu Honda offer unique abilities and upgrades that impact gameplay effectiveness.
In the case of “Warriors: Abyss”, rather than following the traditional arcade-style approach seen in previous games, it’s likely that it will feature a persistent upgrade system reminiscent of roguelike games. The upgrade mechanism in this game is known as the Hall of Bonded Souls.
In “Warriors: Abyss,” players can begin their adventure with more than a dozen characters to select initially. However, the Hall of Linked Spirits offers additional heroes for unlocking. There are roughly a hundred heroes in all, and Koei Tecmo/Omega Force might introduce even more through future updates. Unlocking these characters grants bonuses for stat upgrades, such as Attack Power, Defense, and Health. Among the many heroes within the Hall of Linked Spirits, these are the ones that offer both usefulness and enjoyment upon unlocking.
8. Hanbei Takenaka
Young But Still Capable

- Upgrade Effect: +3 Defense
Hanbei Takenaka is among the younger characters in the game Warriors: Abyss, and he wields an unusual weapon – a yo-yo shield. This weapon seems to be an integral part of his body, as he can hurl it at enemies effortlessly. Players should discover that it’s quite simple to link combos using this weapon. Hanbei is also described as a nimble character overall.
Considering his performance, he’s average with no standout skills, but this isn’t necessarily a drawback. In fact, his contribution to the team’s overall skill development is beneficial, especially in the defensive aspect.
7. Huang Zhong
This Old Man Can Still Crank That Bow

- Upgrade Effect: +4 Health
Huang Zhong appears to be past his prime as an action hero, yet he remains surprisingly vigorous. Among the few archers in “Warriors: Abyss“, he skillfully employs his bow for most of his combos, unlike Ina who primarily wields her bow as if it were a sword.
Huang has the ability to rapidly shoot multiple arrows, acting as a deterrent against approaching foes. Despite his elderly appearance, Huang proves to be a valuable addition to your team, offering an impressive increase in health as well.
6. Kotaro Fuma
A Stretchy Demon Ninja

- Upgrade Effect: +2 Defense
Among the formidable ninja characters players can call forth from the darkness, Kotaro Fuma stands out. His appearance is akin to that of a demonic figure, and much like one, he possesses an uncanny ability – the elongation of his limbs beyond natural bounds, reminiscent of elastic-limbed characters such as Mr. Fantastic.
The Musou games don’t follow much logic, but that hasn’t been their focus all along. The most impressive move undeniably belongs to Kotaro, where he spins like a whirlwind, allowing players to guide him for a brief period. Although it strengthens his Defense, the thrill of controlling Kotaro himself is far more exciting.
5. Masamune Date
Even With One Eye, He’s Still A Crack Shot

- Upgrade Effect: +1 Attack
Masamune Date, a samurai, appears to have a handicap with his eyepatch. Yet, he astonishingly maintains pinpoint precision in striking his targets. His primary weapon is a katana, yet his combat style, combined with his Musou attack, occasionally incorporates pistols, giving him the flair of a gun-wielding action hero, reminiscent of Dante from Devil May Cry.
Just beside Masamune in the upgrade system, you’ll find Magoichi Saika, a character known for his musket. Both of them increase Attack power and are enjoyable to play with, yet Masamune offers a slightly broader range of capabilities.
4. Naotora Li
These Fists Launch Tornadoes

- Upgrade Effect: +1 Attack
Naotora Li may appear to be somewhat naive or timid in her role as a fighter and her speech patterns, but just like Huang’s hidden wisdom, Naotora conceals a lethal secret. This seemingly delicate figure possesses the incredible power to generate tornadoes on the battlefield with her devastating punches.
Her fighting skills are renowned, turning her into a formidable and powerful warrior. Facing off against a skilled warrior monk like Tifa from Final Fantasy 7 would be no easy feat for her, and she’d likely hold her own with ease.
3. Sun Quan
Tokyo Drifting Through The Underworld

- Upgrade Effect: +4 Health
Sun Quan, much like several characters in “Warriors: Abyss”, wields a sword. Yet, he uniquely keeps it hidden behind his back, skimming it along the ground to produce a stunning display. If players coordinate their actions skillfully, Sun will swiftly dart around an adversary and then catch them off guard with a fiery blade.
The flame on his blade will keep blazing for several moments afterwards. Among the characters, only Sun possesses the innate ability to wield elemental coatings such as this one, without requiring temporary enhancements like Emblems, which makes him exceptionally unique and scarce.
2. Tadakatsu Honda
An Unbreakable Wall

- Upgrade Effect: +10 Defense
Tadakatsu Honda, a character from Warriors: Abyss, is someone players might want to unlock swiftly due to his powerful abilities and high durability. However, he’s not particularly enjoyable to play with. His attacks are potent, and he can take a lot of damage, but his sluggish movement and relatively simple combo patterns may deter some players.
Regardless, the enhancement to his Defense stat is hard to ignore. Enhancing Defense, perhaps even more so than Health, will significantly increase the endurance of Warriors: Abyss players, making them last longer in gameplay. In any roguelike, survival is a crucial element that should not be overlooked.
1. Yoshitsugu Otani
A True Mage Of The Samurai Age

- Upgrade Effect: +3 Defense
In some cases, you’ll encounter figures similar to Sun Quan, who possess a modest mastery over the elements. On the other hand, there are characters reminiscent of Yoshitsugu Otani in “Warriors: Abyss”, who have the ability to manipulate raw magical power directly.
As a gamer, I’ve got this mage character who whips up lightning bolts, energy balls, tornadoes, and lasers with just a flick of his ornate staff. He may not be the toughest against bosses, but boy, can he clear out a crowd in an instant – that’s quite the spectacle!
